Well done mate. Looks like it has a fair cam in it the way the whole car shakes at idle!

Cully, Just came across your epic travels this evening. I just could not put it down. You are truly an inspiration to everyone who has ever thought about making a trip in their Hot Rod and then put it off thinking it might be to rough. My hat is off to you and your missus. Both of you are real sports. I was wondering what temp the flat motor was running at when you were cooking down the road at 114F? Thank you so much for sharing. Take care and be safe.

Your a soldier! I'd love to do a trip like that.

  10. Engine temp was ok in the mornings when it was a bit cooler but as the day heated up I had to start backing off on the loud pedal.

Awesome. This story is way cooler than that Aussie heat. You've done us Hotrodders proud.

Cully, I read the first page of this thread when you posted it and really wanted to see the rest. This should be compulsory reading for all hot rodders. Thanks for sharing, Mike.

:)May be a higher pressure radiator cap would help? Carry an assortment and change as needed. I know that's not a common practice but neither is a 100 degree drive.:D

  18. What a journey! Read the whole thread, and you made it feel like we were there. Outstanding photo's! I loved the pictures of the dry, red earth. Could almost taste the dryness. A hotrodder's mecca. I am sure your road trip will inspire many for a long time to come.

Being a 114F outside it about had to be a 130F inside the cab. What a trip and enough memories to last a lifetime. You are one rugged pair and one heck of a team. Thanks again for sharing.

Can you tell me who the US supplier who specializes in early Ford gearboxes is? I am doing a rebuild on my '39, am considering a L/Z gear set, but am anxious about all the negative comments that I read.
