Hey guys... 3 weeks to the Picnic. Most of ya know the score, but some just don't take much notice, moving to their own beat, so... although we had a loose understanding about what we're into, things have been getting out of hand lately, and entrants have ignored our requests to keep later model rides out of our pre '64 allocated areas, so we'll have to try harder to enforce our wishes. Some of you sometimes criticise how an event had been ran in the past, and whinge about later models cramping our style... well now is the opportunity to put your money where your mouth is! Come see me prior to the weekend (don't forget it's cruise night this Friday) and offer to help enforce our ideology, in other words put up or shut up! I've been promoting our cause for decades now, and have seen it grow immensely with thousands of new enthusiasts that don't really get it 'cause they haven't been there, but let's all help to educate them. I've given up relaying on common sense, and have put our wishes in a new rules page on our web site. No... the Picnic won't turn into an elitist car show, we are obligated in promoting our hobby to anyone and everyone that will listen, so we'll have some later models and street rods there, but we'll try to keep it tight! Below are the rules and the weekend schedule with the greatest lineup of Rockabilly bands ever in Australia, and we'd appreciate any input to continue having the Picnic right up there as the best damn Rod & Custom event in the Southern Hemisphere. Chopper The Rules At Kustoms Of Australia we championed the moto... there are NO RULES, but unfortunately circumstances change, and for our hobby to survive and thrive we have to abide with the times and continue to bring enjoyment to enthusiasts. As our events are experiencing an enormous growth, we have to apply some basic rules to assure that our original aims aren't lost within the unprecedented demands placed upon us by enthusiasts and governing bodies. At Pakenham Racecourse the area from Racecourse Road through to the end of the racing stables enclosure is strictly a pre '64 entrant area, as this is what the PICNIC is all about! We welcome all our friends with relevant newer vehicles which they believe will fit within the PICNIC ideology but please observe our wishes and park outside the pre '64 areas (no vehicles newer than 1972 body style unless they are purpose built show cars, and they must set up in allocated area in the oval). In the central compound parking is by invitation only, for Traditional Hot Rods and Kustoms, and certain unique vehicles, but as unfortunately we can only accommodate a limited number of vehicles, a lot of deserving rides won't get the opportunity to park there... but that's an unfortunate problem we'll have to live with! Obey the signs! Cruising will be directed clockwise with a 5kph speed limit through the central compound, as there will be thousands of people milling around catching the bands and/or checking out the rides. Because of insurance demands, for cars to be eligible to cruise they should either have full registration or permit, and the drivers will have to be licensed. No burnouts or hooning at the venue or the Saturday Main drag cruise, anyone causing trouble will be immediately banned from our events. This event belongs to you the entrants, and you can make sure it remains successful by enjoying yourselves. The Picnic is a Hot Rod, Kustom, and Rockabilly festival, not just a car show, so as in the past, your car will not be judged, and we don't want you to be disappointed. Trophies will be given to cars picked by enthusiasts for being kewl and not necessarily the best detailed cars there! We invite you to help us and your other friends by keeping an eye out and discouraging people from accidentally or intentionally causing any damage. A couple of other requests. To expedite entry please endeavour to have the correct change ready, and be patient if there is a delay as the guys helping out at the gate are enthusiasts just like you and know that things can be frustrating at times, and will be trying to get you in as quickly as possible, all just for the love of the hobby. Put yourselves in their shoes... actually, if you can spare a couple of hours during the day to help at the gates it would help tremendously! Those that can help get to see all the cars cruising in, and get free entry, event shirt, and food and soft drinks, and are invited to the post Picnic BBQ and drinks on Melbourne cup day. Hey Frank I've dropped the Rockabilly dance for the Friday and moved the get together back to my place like before as lot's of people commented that they'd rather catch up with us here... check out my projects, and piss on in peace. We've changed the Rockabilly Riot to the Saturday after the main drag cruise, at the local pub. I'll catch ya tonite Jason! Chopper
