Great Idea,I live at the the Foothills of the Dandenongs so roll out the drive and im there, agree with others on criteria perphaps along the line of Chopped Shows at Newstead. Merry Xmas Mark
o,k guys, sorry i've been awol, kids are now in bed so i'll ramble on a bit more.stovebolt, sorry bout the late call last night, just really good to have a chat. i'll just say this is not my deal, this will belong to all of us. i don't have a big ego,so you won't see me swaggering around talkin tish.i'm sure i'm not the first one to have this idea, just really excited about the possibilities. what i'd like to do is open up my joint one sunday arvo for those who are interested in helping to get this going.i'll supply the beer and snags, you bring your thinking caps.work out a time and i'll get it happening. cheers, thommo.
Sounds good, there are some great driving roads up in the hills. Sunday traffic will take some shine off it, but there are plenty of lesser used backroads up that way. Hardest part will be keeping it within the spirit and style of the original run.
Hmmm, my thoughts are mixed on this. Mark and I (plus a few others) have spoken of this too. Personally, I can't see it working as anything but some bastardised poker run unless you follow the PRC rules to the letter. Letting in cars just to make up numbers is a recipe for disaster. If that means no coupes or customs, so be it.
peddro, spot on.i think would have to be invitation only, period correct cars,no billet,no bling,no wankers.i don't know if we have enough period open cars so may have to be a little flexible. numbers to be capped at 50-100?. really would like to see this happen,if you don't have a go you'll never know.
I hear the concerns but whats wrong with a bastardized poker run? Lets just keep it HAMB friendly and go for a drive, Im sick of having to pay more than the general public to park my car so they can look at it. Lets just burn some dinosaur bones! Maybe we could meet up at Waynes booth at the Island to thrash out some ideas.
Im in. my car enjoys a drive, and so do I. I too have given up on "parking" shows pretty much. I'm going to join the vscc and start doing trials and hillclimbs. Beat all that wimpy pommy shit at their own game.much more fun.
I gotta say if it is going to work it needs to be for roadsters only like the Pasadena Reliability Run. That might get a few peoples panties in a bunch but you get that. Plus it might get those roadsters out that have been hidden for a while, this is definitely a Spring/Summer type event.
I think you'd be better off with 15 - 20 suitable cars and like minded people than 50 -100 O/T ones just so you can say we had 50 cars. That's not the point. If it were around here I'd say meet for a 5 am departure. It's dayllight here at 4:30 anyway and not too hot + less traffic. Could be all done by 10.
I hate to say this - but I think they let coupes into one of the latter original runs I have it on record that I'd police entry to ensure only the "right" vehicles get invited. My view is that only 20-30 cars get invited initially - to ensure that it both works and to maintain the integrity of the event. Organizing such an event will be a labour of love, as a "non-club" event requires people to be there for the participants traveling ahead of the pack to be there at any stops, organize starting times, checking travel times, picking the "winner" of the time-trial and any other duty one can think of. Now who's up to help run the event? I'm up for it
Once you figure out a route, someone is going to have to drive it to time it before the event as well, so you've got your target time for the participants.
I have to agree with Greg W. ( I'm out as well ) Invitation only would be the best way to go then you do not offend any one. Good luck with it as a few of us in Castlemaine wanted to do something similar to this (Reliability Type Run) but did not wish to offend any one.
Email me and I'll speak to you about the formula that makes and event such as our PRC RR different from a "Parking Lot Show vs A Roll-N-Go". I will say that w/o a bunch of dedicated members, it couldn't happen.
i'm up for it, as stovebolt said, who else is willing to put their hands up and give it a crack in organizing this?
Thanks for the offer Kevin. You're right about the need for volunteers - without them your event would not take place, and I see this a's the biggest challenge to an event out here.
THat's a generous offer Kev. I'm guessing that formula has a fairly decent helping of tradition and history in it.
g'day fellas, hope everyone has had a safe and merry christmas. i'm still getting over helping putting down a turkey that was the size of an emu. generous offer from cyclone kevin,i p.m'd him the other day so should here back after the chrissy rush.i'm warming to the smaller size event as mentioned by x38, not really an ellitist thing but something people can inspire to in the future. compact, thanks for the putting your hand up ,we still need a few more. lets keep the fire burning, cheers, thommo.
Hey, by the time you've got all the necessary volunteers to make it happen, I hope you've got enough worthy players to participate in the run Was discussing it with a mate yesterday and it would seem the only way is for invitation only. And NO, you cannot have this or that mate participate. And if they pull the "well if they can't I won't either" routine, so be it, you're out. Then of course you get the ones that just 'show up'. Gotta say no, this is a cat show, no dogs allowed. If it's slack standards, it won't be special. And maybe if standards are high and specific enough it might inspire people to 'do the right thing' car wise with a hope of being invited next time. It's a dream
I agree on the criteria being inspirational and aspirational for future entrants. we need to 'improve the breed' down here. Im happy to volunteer my help, as long as I still get to drive/enter on the day! let us Know a date for a get together, Thommo.
rat and lowsquire, thanks for the offer,it won't be misplaced. heard back from cyclone kevin today,he made mention that one of the first prc reliability runs was won by an olds powered coupe! the main criteria he mentioned was go out and have fun. i'm thinking of a possible date for a get together, for those interested in helping get this going, the weekend after the jan long weekend(melb hot rod show),more than willing to open the shed up and get the missus working the bbq.if that dates no good, let me know. pm me and i'll send out the address details. lets keep it rolling fellas, cheers, thommo.
If this is the type of event/guidelines you guys are thinking about, put me down to help out. Moonshine Run!
Moonshine ...... great name. Hey I know the owner of moonshine motors ..... Sponsor some timing tags?????? Mark (thommo) can you pm me your email address
Sounds something like a Street Rodder would use, sorry but I don't like it. I maybe in the minority with that thought but that is how I feel.
I think you'd have to invite Coupes as well - to make it not too elitist. Sounds like a great idea though, I've thought about something similar up here - through the Blue Mountains, though I've got to finish my Coupe first. Invite only has got to be the way to go. The Poms do it sucessfully as well, invite only - touring some of the old Wartime airfields around East Anglia. Good luck with it, it sounds like a good plan. Also stick with the Reliability Run moniker, as the Moonshine name sounds a bit crap really
