  1. Must be a few utes over your way as I saw a 1952 Chev ute and a 1946 ute at the 98 heartland nationals.

glad to see that you made it mark. thanks for sharing, that is the first show I have missed in as long as I can remember. I have always made an effort to get to the show regardless of whether all of it is of interest to me, if we dont support it, it will dissapear.

  5. Thanks for the ticket. KARMA ;)

I haven't been to THE hot rod show for probably 20 years. My 7 year old saw the ad on TV and decided we should go. He loved it! I saw a few cars I really liked but without being negative about the show I think I prefer some of the outdoor shows and runs better. But who am I to discourage the enthusiasm of a 7 year old?

I had forgotten what a fantastic building that is though. I enjoyed seeing that again nearly as much as the cars.

Thank you very much for the pix. That building is awesome. Over here,we'd tear it down and build a strip maul,I mean,Mall.

I love that tourism commercial"Come and visit us,but don't expect us to change just for you."

If Ryan looks at this post he may change his mind about indoor carshows. That building knocks me on my ass !!!! What cars?

  11. If this works I pinched a couple of small pics from another site to show what it looks like with out the cars.

  13. Just curious if any of you guys from Australia have seen this truck? It was my fathers. The person he sold it to sold it to someone in Australia. Have you seen it around????

I know it's not hamb style, but I am just interested if anyone has seen it.

Love the photos. I'm going to Australia this week. Going to be visiting the Gold Caost region. Let me know if there are any HAMB style shows or shops to visit.

    Thanks

Nice show Aussies. Not to jack this thread but I came across this 49 Chevy for sale while looking online. Is it a real ute or just a well done custom? It looks to be right hand drive.

  16. That's a ute.

  17. Brad B, call this number: 0408 158360 ask for Craig (he should answer).

    Jimmy B's up that way.

Or, you could call my mum. Actually, better not.

It is a real UTE and for sale for less than the transport cost.
$3,200 would barely cover transport and duties license etc.
    http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/8/4/86955284.htm

Granted it is rough, But if you want a UTE here in the states there are very few to choose from. If not this one then you need to find one in OZ and have it shipped over

There is also this 1959 Chrysler Wayfarer UTE in Colorado
    http://www.thesvda.com/show_veh.asp?veh=1214
that has been modified with a 6-cyl HEMI (OZ only engine) for sale for $13K

OR my Plymouth is avalable for $15K Hate to sell it but need to generate cash to restore the Desoto UTE

  19. Pretty sure it's not Benny's Merc. His is a darker purple, doesn't have the ghost flames and has some pretty ordinary looking billet wheels on it. But of course, that can all be changed pretty easily!

  20. The Merc is a recent import built I believe by some American guy named Winfield. Has gorgeous ghost flame job and is straighter than the proverbial arrow.

The building was constructed in the mid 1800s for 'The Great Exhibition' hence it's name, 'The Royal Exhibition Building' it's been home to the hot rod show for 42 years and in fact the hot rod show is the longest running exhibition/show to be held in the building.

It is world heritage listed so will never be changed from what you see, which is exactly how it looked when it was built. It was restored to this condition in the lete 1970s after being renovated during the 1950s and 1960s in then 'trendy' finishes etc.

For some reason the floor is about to undergo another full restoration/replacement, which is kinda weird cos it's still in pristine condition.

Right next door in the same garden setting is one our incredibly modern and kinda 'out there' new Mmuseum complex, which makes a great contrast to this grand old lady. She looks even more stunning when lit up at night.

  21. I was pretty busy all weekend looking after models and paintin stuff, so I didn't get a lot of pics outside. However, I did manage to grab a few pics before the doors opened on Sunday morning. Hope it's not too many in a single post.

This one is kinda interesting in that as it drove out sounding very nasty, there was no blower whine and I swear the blower drive belt was not moving.

The homebuilt woody was accompanied by a matching teardrop trailer and every bit of surfing nostalgia known to man.

This is the ASRF raffle car for which will go to some lucky ticket holder at Easter time. If it's me, I'm keepin' it.
One of these cars is a hard driven street animal, the other a trailer queen, guess which one is which.

Greg Ford drove his A coupe all the way from Hastings for the day, a couple hundred mile round trip maybe.
This is one of them Dearborn thingies with the wind up windows, but at least it do have a genuine Hemi
    [IMG]
Johhny Z had folks mesmerised with his new 'eyes' all weekend, So what's a weird guy like him drive.....
Not fully restored because most of it is as it was raced back in the early 70s. Mick has only done what's required to make Ratliff's 'Classical gas' raceworthy again.
The show had more than the usual number of radical choppers.
This is one of the many scale models on the model car show tables. I spent most of my weekend looking after the mini show within a show and had my striping table set up there so I could do some work. Must striped a hundred mobile phones, a bunch of I pods and all manner of other weird stuff.

methinks the 392 Hemi into Goggomobile dart is just a tad ambitious.

Southern Hot Rod Club is Astralia's oldest being formed in 1957, thus they are this year celebrating their 50th anniversary
    [IMG]
This is another Merc recently imported from the US
    [IMG]
Ian Murcott won many top sedan trophies back in the sisxties with his wild Y block powered 'Little Hoss' A tudor, he's been MIA for a long while but in recent years has been screwing this together in his home garage. You may recall my ramblings about Dave Murcott and our old No 71 and No 77 Sprintcar, Ian is Dave's dad. FWIW Dave recently won the local World of Outlaws, just like we always knew he would one day.

This sweet looking thing only a few weeks ago was a rough as guts purple suede and flamed rat rod.

  22. and a few more....

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another hard driven long serving street hot rod, the 'Pro Gangsta' Dodge won top four door sedan.
Might look like a nancy boy street rod but Kev's '36 is as close to a daily driven hot rod as you'll find anywhere. Won 3rd Roadster.
This thing won just about everything, but before you scream pro built show car, understand this thing was built in a home garage by it's owner. Sure he pumped in some bucks but he also machined much of the billet all by himself, including the entire induction system. So it's true that things are not always as they seem. Yep, the car also took home the biggest pile of gold, but it was also driven in and out of the event.
Yup, those bodies have finally arrived downunder.

Check out the angle of the rocker covers, clearly not a MOPAR Hemi, but a disgiused Ford small-block

This model has to be seen to be believed, it is fully plumbed and has all linkages and the tiniest nuts and bolts holding it together.
VonFat's roadster changed hands on Sunday morning it's now early Model Anthony's new ride. His old lady wasn't too happy having three cars in the driveway, I wonder what she said about his latest purchase?
Bern's sweet little hopped up model A
    [IMG]
This '57 Bird is fine enough to turn even the hardest core rodder towards restoration. The detailing is simply stunning and the picture doesn't do the car any justice at all
    [IMG]

I told theis guy if he left his kid's mini rod parked too close to my table I'd spill paint on it. he didn't believe me, liked em enough not to make me rub em off.

Buggered if I know what this is, a single seat mini truck?

  23. Hey carps
thanks for adding some more pics.
