George, the guy who owns the surplus junk store across the street from the junkyard on the main drag thru Huachuca City...ran for mayor...so now that he's mayor no one can hassle him about his junk store.

Milo's yard is still a mess, it would be ok except that he's an asshole and won't sell the stuff.

just bought a 69 SS Impala near Wm.Cannon and First..car has been sitting for several years, owner had one visit from code compliance and after putting on a tarp and periodically making sure the tires were aired up that was the end of it...

We have the "Blight police" every thing must be tagged, insured and on cement or cement pads under the tires. next week when i bring home the new project ill be pushing the limits for a few days till i can make room in my garage for it. but then the 4 cops that live down the street from me have old cars that sit out side all year and they never get tagged...

Damn, in Plano they are really anal about that kind of stuff... I had to have a new fence built around a part of my driveway where I had a project parked... I had an a'hole neighbor who reported me for making too much noise at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon, all I did was cut through 1pc of 2" pipe... Looking back I should have just put antique tags on it, and pissed that neighbor off even more...

I'll be curious what happens when all of are "Mixed use vertical" blah blah neighbors move in. They don't seem to care much for old houses; I can't imagine what they think of *gasp!* old cars!
Buzz is right-Austin sux, don't move here...

it is a sad state of affairs when a person cant have a car that is their hobby at their home, yet another person can have 20+ people and their cars at their house EVERY night enjoying their hobby. This country has flat assed lost its sense of humor. God, its good to live in the United States of the Offended.

It's not that Austin's bad in itself; it's that all the people currently moving here want to CHANGE it for some damn reason. Let's take South Austin for instance. Lot's of people want to move here for the "artsy/cool" vibe or whatever. Well, you start pricing houses over half a mil and none of those cool artsy people can afford to live here! I'm also curious as to who the hell is going to fill up all these new high rises they're building all over the damn place? Nobody I know makes that kind of money, and the job market sucks, so where are the buyers coming from???

    sorry,rant over...

Apparently, California is moving to Austin. Certainly you've noticed.

Here in Omaha we have code inforcement cops and they take it serious.Had one tell me that you can't change your oil in the driveway . Nothing stored outside but a lawnmower. They can and will walk onto your property to check tags on vehicles. They pic an area and go around check but also complaints from do gooders. It sucks but I work around it, thats all you can do. Later Rob

Yeah, I realize that and I know they can sell their house in California for a mil and buy one here for 300k and 700k left over, but what are they going to do when that runs out?

Ok...waaaaaaaay OT. I'm sorry, but it's been pissing me off for a while...

Quite a few local car enthusiasts and I fought a proposed ordinance that would limit the number of non-running vehicles a person can have in their yard here in Kern County. We lost, but fortunately the system is complaint driven and we got enough stipulations in it so most of us would not be effected. A friend of mine had to get some lame conditional use permit but he has like 60 cars, but they are in his backyard and can't be seen. I think it's bullshit when they try to tell you what you can and cannot have on your private property. a swimming pool is more of a hazard than a 40 ford sitting in your driveway. Eyesore? How about someone painting thir house in neon colors? I could go on. One thing cool though is in the California Vehicle Code it states the fact that the classical cars will be restored and that this hobby is encouraged and it also describes and defines a "Parts Car" and explains that this is needed when restoring a classic automobile.
This is also a way to get around paying back fees when registering a classic vehicle. They are waived if you are restoring a classical vehicle. Cite article 5051.

ps..the reason why I moved here with my family is because its NOT CA...I personally don't want to change a thing.

Don't tell Von Franco he is packing and moving there as we speak.

  18. easy fix....just live in a part of town where inoperable vehicles are the least of the cops worries....move next to a crack house full of illegal immigrants like i did and you'll never be hassled....by the cops anyway.

So a car under a tarp is more of a hazard than other stuff have in their yard???? Like the place on the corner with unnumbered kids and more on the way and every piece of crap Plastic treehouse, slide, blowupswimming pool, bigwheel/s, castle, playhouse, tugboat, that Walmart ever sold, and the stuff stays there after the kids are gone off to college or jail cuz the grandbabies are coming??? Or the guy witht he pop up camper that hasn't moved since MOM got bit by the rabid racoon, swelled up died and Gawd I just can't bear to move it, or the Glastron with fins and the white Merc OB under the half tarp been ripped at the windshied and flappin in the wind for the past 4 years, on the rusted trailer with the flat tires imbedded in the tarvia. Or the nice little old lady with every Garden Gnome ever cast of left over concrete. And the woman who goes to every craft show in the county and buys them Shit on a Stick pound in decorations, Blight is blight clean it all or leave it be.....

And how come the guy with the two foot deep blow up pool needs to get a permit, pay a fee and put up a fence, but the 3 foot deep gold fish pond with the fake waterfalls and colored lights, and one of them polystyrene frogs that croaks when the dogs walks by is OK with no permit, no fee, and no fence????? Our town ords state that all accessory vehicle, RVs, boat trailers, etc must be parked at least 30 feet from the center lineof the road on a resilient permanent surface.
But then they limit the amount of your yard that can be paved. I had a long discussion with the codes guy about the permanancy and resiliency of treated 2 x 6's. He said there were paving material. I said the codes doesn't call for paving material. Just says it can't be a grass area. Then he said they weren't permanent. So what is a 30 year ground contact warrantee if not permanent?

There are two ways I can go with this Austin ordinance<p>
    [IMG]<p>
Look at the City Council, Crazy (psychotic) Jennifer Kim, Brewster McKracken etc. They are part of this whole "Lets be more like Berkley or San Francisco" movement, problem is this isn't either. Remember the "no plastic bags at the HEB vote"? Lately the CC is trying to be the "Greenest city in the US" one proposal was to require ALL houses to upgrade to the latest greenest appliances before the house can be sold. SURE..... $200,000 dollar houses are teardowns in central Austin.
Elect new people to city council!
    Another thing to do.
My buddy has an Airstream parked in his front yard, right in the heart of 78704. LOTS, TONS of complaints, and I can't really say I blame the people for complaining. Looks like shit etc. Metal fence around it to satisfy code req.
But he finally told the code guy to write him a ticket or go away.
The guy couldn't figure out what to write him a ticket for.
It's parked on gravel, AKA driveway, and has a "fence" around it.
    Fuck 'em.

Reality. Keep your place looking "nice" ( I use that term loosly) and you aren't going to have problems here. Most people understand they live in Texas.

  22. FUCK NEIGHBORS! the thing about rodents is: better living in a old car than my house! that stuff about promoting is bullshit, garbage promotes rodents. i have the county zoning people and the health department out on a regular basis and they are really nice people. after wasting enough trips they just call and ask "how are the tomatoes doing? "we have a 20'x40' greenhouse with organic hydroponic setup.:D
