Just read a newspaper article about the informal Saturday night car show in Austin (1431 and Parmer). Looks like it has been kicked out of the Home Depot parking lot due to size and complaints. Sounds like everyone is looking for a new location for the gathering.

Occasionally there were some hot rods there, but it was generally a pretty good mix of classic, muscle, hot rod, tuner, and motorcycles. Everything from Lambos to restored model A's. I enjoyed going out there to check out the cars and talk with other car enthusiasts. Sucks that someone bitched and forced the man to shut it down. Hopefully we find a new place to congregate.

Ironic isn't it, that they build these GIANT parking lots and we PARK CARS in them they get bent out of shape? Reminds of people with buildings that have perfect rails and even verts for skating but are totally off limits:(

Were import burnouts and litter the culprit again? seems to be a recurring theme if so. the fistfight quota is way,way down from the round rock days, though.

any one given any thought to our multitudes of parks around here, or have they finally put up curfew plaques on all of those, too? once upon a time, the place to be was the big park off unpleasant valley and ....somewhere.

damn, that was a looong time ago.

That is why the gatherings get shut down by us. In theory, cool cars in the parking lot should bring people into the lot, thus increasing foot traffic inside the store.

But then the loud bass starts coming out and someone scratches a customers car...

Litter is always an issue. The parking lot gets trashed and nobody picks up the crap... I can see why retailers put a stop to it.

I've gone by there probably 6 or 7 times and have never seen a burnout or dumbass do something stupid. Most people take off fast on the road, but not in the parking lot. Sometimes there are kids there with bass, but I've seen way worse. The litter could be an issue...I've never hung around long enough to see the aftermath. I know for sure that the Whattaburger got more business in the same parking lot...but also paid more for water with all the bathroom usage. :)

CedarPark has a big brand new park-n-ride lot just north of 1431 on 183, nobody uses it anyhow, why not move to it, we paid for it

what we really need to find is a great big parkin' lot that is privately owned.
and a whole bunch of trash cans.

seems like the Import crowd is finally getting wise as how to behave in a place such as this. (not that our bunch has never been known to act a fool....)

Thats the problem with the meeting at the "Y" here. Its mostly mustangs, camaros and 57' chevys....BORING!!!!

If you want to meet someplace, dont talk to the newspapers or TV people. Dont be affraid to ignore the import car people, the mustang street draggers or mini-truck guys. These are the same groups that are wrecking the Round-Up for the rest of us.

Do the meetings rave style. Move it around to different parking places.

Same crap happened to us here in S.A., we had a nice gig at the Forum, then the tuners started doing there burnouts and make-shift drifting crap and we all lost our hangout! Bad thing is joe Average see the Hot Rods there week after week and then assumes it us doing that crap.

Tuners? Who are they? Anyhow lets keep the meeting place among this class of rodders...Usually these kids mess it up for all of us doing burn outs when not necessary and trashing the area like they live there. Gangs and classic cars do not mix very well, along with the Macho testotrone levels, Drug money will buy you anything and that brings attitude and disrespect for your fellow car nuts. We are hard working Car nuts who work for every nut and bolt on our cars and respect each other for it. Lets not bow to the minority. Move the meeting places every so often to keep the trash guessing on our where abouts. :D

Couple of things need to clear up....
1)I've noticed the muscle car guys are the ones that do the burnouts everytime there was a burnout
2)gangs??? tuner cars are not gangmembers...or viceversa I've never really seen the tuner guys cause problems
3)just because they don't drive a classic car doesn't mean they aren't car nuts...

The whole problem is not because of tuner cars, muscle cars, or any other car group causing trouble. Its more "the event is too big and its interferring with the business itself. Us car guys aren't buying anything from Home Depot when we're parked there in our cars at that time. Its the paying customers AT THAT TIME that don't have a place to park.

Befriend some cops with hot rods/classics...we have the same problem with tuners, imports and youngsters here in Denver...and our Friday nite cruise is on private property with an invite by the owner...the cops KNOW it's the tuners that cause the problems...so the owner and the cops get together and station a couple of undercover cops and a couple of police cruisers in the shopping center lot...puts a quik end to them burning rubber up the aisles and flying in between cars...there's been lots of tickets issued. That's the only way these youngsters learn and understand.

One of our BIG local cruise-ins got shut down, new management came in and dicided they dodn't need the foot traffica 300-400 or so cars brought in every week. It's changed location a couple of times and now it's not even close to the same deal.

Just a thought, is there an auto parts store with a big enough parking lot around? I'd think an informal gathering of cars would be good for business.....

    Hey Ryan! Media Guru!

How about approaching an appropriate business from a HAMB perspective and asking for a sponsorship event? Maybe Home Depot could have considered participating and controlling the setting. A couple of folks directing parking and policing the burn out bozos would be a cheap investment for some positive PR. Done right, there would be no real disturbance of the regular customers. Maybe a prospective business would like to become an Alliance supporter. Am I crazy?
