Please DONT worry that i ve posted my Problem on two places at this Board, i m mit sure which is the right one.

Hi from Germany, i need your help with a Special Problem i cant fix from here. My lifetime Dream was to own and buy a Rod in the USA and Drive down the Pacific coast Highway for Five weeks, from Seattle across Oregon to California, to Viva las Vegas to join the Show with my own car. So Long so good, the car bought 2016 in Seattle, 1938 chevy qp, 350/350 Weiand blower, the way i like it. A friend of Mine in Yakima puls the car into his Little Shop to fix some coolant Problems and change Some Parts for the 2500 Miles Road Trip. You See my Dream comes true, a German insurance Broker contact a USA insurance Company for the right ThirdParty liability, i am waiting for the policy. And now the nightmare begins. One Day before Christmas the US Company told the Broker in Germany ( netherlands too) that they DONT Insure non US citizens and mypolicy and the policys of 10-20 other European citizens are canceled. I cant believe that there is no way to Insure my Dream . Here arme some facts: both drivers are 52/54 years old, German Passport and ESTA to join theUSA. Clear international driver License, the car is Titeld in Washington with matching License plate.

WE DONT wanna burrie Our Dream and WE arme to old to wait to a Point in the far Future.
Here are the companys i ve contact during the Last Week, all with a negativ Feedback:

Farmer, Geico, progressive, Mercury, Sunrise Group........

If anyone could help US with a new idea or direct help, please please please drop me a line
You could contact me direct on my privat mailad Blue-merlin@web.de

    Thx for Reading my comment

I don't know about WA, but in NY if you license a car you have to bring proof of insurance to the DMV to get it licensed. So if its licensed to someone here in the US can they add you to their policy? If the car is licensed in someone else's name and you are going to drive it that way, it would seem almost safer for them if they added you to their policy and you pay them for that cost.

I don't know the answer to your questions, but here is what i would try:

    1. Will any of the companies in Germany provide insurance that would cover you in the US? People drive into the US with Canadian/Mexican polices all the time.
    2. Google and call local auto insurance brokers in WA, particularly around college towns where there would be international students. They may have some insight as to what you can do.
    3. You are travelling 3 states, is it easier to obtain insurance in OR or CA? I notice the sunrise group lists CA as a state they work in.

  4. A friend of mine who spends half his time here and half elsewhere and is not a US citizen bought some real estate and a car here last year. He ran into the same problem trying to insure the car. Progressive was the only company who would write him a policy, and it was expensive.

Although the OP says "car is Titeld in Washington with matching License plate", he's not being quite forthright, because he admits in another thread that the car is still titled in the seller's name. That's the first hurdle he needs to clear before he can proceed with a legal solution.

For 3 years now I have been trying to get insurance on the Hudson to bring it over for 6 months and I am hitting the same brick wall.
I do have a friend from Australia who spends a good deal of time in Texas and he had to get a Texas licence to get insurance on his 32 Tudor and his drive car and truck. I guess insurance companies don't want one off short term deals and want ALL your insurance eg house cars etc.

With the International Drivers License it should be easy to get car insurance before you arrive in the states.

Title isn't a big issue if the the seller has a clear title, you go to Cascade licensing in Union Gap Wa which is on the south end of First street in Yakima. You actually drive down the street and at Washington avenue go into Union Gap from Yakima. IF you have to change title and get plates go to them. If you need a US address we can handle that.
Washington has a law now where when you transfer the title you also have to get new license plates. that ran up to 168 bucks on a 600 dollar car I bought last month.
The good news for you is that in this state even illegal aliens can get insurance and a drivers license. That means that you should be able to get liability insurance without a big hassle.
You might check www.progressive.com and see what they say or http://vernfonk.com/ who has a Yakima office and can probably insure anyone on the planet who has a valid license if you have the coin.
They advertise as being able to take on hard to cover drivers. They are probably you easiest way but may not the least expensive.
I work in Yakima at the airport an live 25 miles south near Toppenish. If you need something let me know and I'll see what I can do.
I'll pm you my phone number.

  10. Allstate and State Farm are the only companies I would ever deal with. Others may satisfy the legal requirement and happily take your money but don't fulfill the business moral requirement standard for claim payment which I personally impose to deserve my business. Since you have a friend in Yakima you should be able to use his address both to register the car and get insurance. I'll make a quick phone call Monday about alien status but I'd think you can just come here and enjoy your dream. What city in Deutschland are you in? I used to have office in Koln.

  11. OK - I just talked with my State Farm agent and no problem. You would purchase the 2500 mile antique? car liability insurance. Price depends up the car and the amount of coverage. Good to go.. Best use a State Farm agent in Yakima using your friends address.

  12. Ask this question on the UK NSRA forum. Several members have taken their own cars to the US and driven them cross country. PM a member called Happydaze.
