Sure looks an aweful lot like a 35J to me...

 

I have a lot of T-Head Mercer driving time. My own fr 11 years and a few others.

They area joy to drive ...... the gearbox is like a hot knife thru butter

The steering is light and the cars just allow you to drive deep and back into the corner.

Of all the stuff I own and have owned my Mercer is the car I miss most.

 

I believe Larry Beals bought the Mercedes from Wishart. {don't quote me on that one}

Soooo, does anyone know which car Wishart bought out of these three?

 

Kurtis, I'll dig out my Wishart info, there was a feature on him in Antique Automobile back in the 1960's. He paid $90,000.00 for that Mercedes used from the factory, that has to be a ton of money in 1909 or 2009 dollars. There was another owner before Beals got the car, he is mentioned on that Hisso site. My guess is that the engine was pulled after his fatal rollover and Beals installed the Hisso V8.

 

Yes, i have read it cost Wishart somewhere in the vicinity of 60K. Whatever the figure was it's an awful lot of money. BTW, racers were making a very good living then, not that many needed the income.

GREAT PHOTOS! I believe the Wishart car was the former Lautenschlager car.

 

I would like to post my story of Vanderbilt cars and board tracks as well as some of my collection of photos however, when I try to "insert a photo" it ask for a url. How do I post one of my collection? I was pretty sure I had done it before on this board.

You have to place your photos on a web hosting site such as flickr-Webshots,etc.
You will then have to copy the url for the photo-open the insert photo box on your reply here- the 2nd box from Rt. I have to remove the http:// that is in the box,then paste your url and then click OK.

You can also post them as an attachment, directly from your computer.
Click the 'go advanced' button and then scroll down and click 'manage attachments' ....

in Picture #4, car #6 is a FIAT.

 

I believe that may be Leon Duray(George Stewart) with the #6 car back in the early IMCA days. Duray is the tall guy with straw hat,I think.

The man leaning on #6 looks like Sig Haugdhal. Maybe that Fiat is Sig`s car and the other car is Duray`s.

Here's a couple of pics of the 1908 FOUNDERS' WEEK CUP trophy that recently sold at auction and George Robertson and the winning Locomobile. It's reported he won $2.500 for his effort while the trophy was worth $1000.

I posted the pic of the hauler on the 'Boardtrack' thread and according to The37Kid the car is the ex. Floyd Clymer, Crazy Chris Eggsguard Fronty. The hauler was also Fronty powered. Both still exist together.

Car is owned and RACED by a non posting HAMB member. I'll be watching it race Saturday at Lime Rock Park here in Connecticut.
