You're probably correct on the location. I took the "Iwanpass" reference from Braunbeck's, so it probably lost something in the translation by the time it got to Germany.

I disagree, nothing wrong with correcting ones mistakes and I appreciate it when he or anyone else does so. As a historian, I want my "facts" to be correct. If being "more constructive" to you means he goes on ebay and other sites, takes the photos and posts them here... I disagree. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE seeing all the photos you guys post, so don't stop. But, how many of these photos do you own or have been given permission by the owner/poster to post elsewhere? I don't mean to lecture you on this but why lecture Michael for giving info/facts?

    gilmore....

I agree with you that the facts should be correct and I am OK with that and also on being corrected when I am wrong.

Maybe "more constructive" was a poor choice of words for the situation. I guess the point I would like to get across is that it would be nice if people used a little more finesse when correcting someone. I have been "corrected" many times by many people and am OK with that but most times they are a little to blunt for my tastes.

We have been through this here before and I am not the first person to bring this up. Kurtis has put a lot of work into this thread and has built is one of the best threads on HAMB.....Let's try to keep it that way. This thread is about photos.......and contributing.

    Thanks 'T'

I'd like to have a good L-head now. Easier for me to drive and afford these days. When I brought my car a friend asked 'What's next?' I said one word Simplex! That's when Austy was still alive and with his help I might have been able......... I really really miss Mr Clark Some of the artwork in the photo I brought from him. He was just 'The Best'

Bluto..... Here is a photo of your old Mercer in the parade last year at the Mercer Centennial. What a wonderful car......

Austin was just an incredible guy.....He is missed by many.....The second photo taken by Dan Strohl from Hemmings shows Austin's Simplex Toy Tonneau we were out exercising one day. Both of his Simplexes came thru here and they are both close by...... the Speedcar is owned by a good friend.

The third photo shows the Toy Tonneau engine after finishing the rebuild and machining new crankcases. The fifth photo shows a new trans-diff case after finishing the machining and during the trial assembly, which gives you and idea of what they look like. The forth photo shows the two cars that he gave to his sons, the Mercer and the Simplex. The Raceabout was here over the winter.

A very good L-Head Raceabout is coming up for sale....PM me and send me your email address I will give you the details.....

    Hello All,
I just got a message from Bob Lawrence asking for help with IDs for a page of big cars.
I have no clue on any of them, but I thought someone on here might be able to recognize some of these cars.

I hope there still a little red mud left on the car from my drive from Singapore to Penang and back.

I know the new owners drive and enjoy my old car. I am very happy they have it.

I put the O on a trailer twice. Once when I got it from Dick and then once for a rally in No Cal. Rest of the time it got driven ..... all over including back and forth to work. :)

There are a lot of guys I miss when I look at a photo of that car.

I posted a few more Simplex trans.- diff. photos as they give you a pretty clear view of how they were made for most of early racing cars we enjoy. Most of them were similar to this and followed Mercedes design as Simplex did.

Basically the trans. was in the front part of the cases and the output shaft had the pinion gear on it which drives the ring gear on the outside of the differential housing (The bevel gears you see in the rear compartment). The jack shafts come out of each side on the back of the cases. Usually there is a brake drum on either side on the shaft between the cases and the frame (inboard brakes). The shaft is held at the frame by a bearing and the sprocket is on the outside of the frame.

The last photo of a Thomas shows how the front drive sprocket sits on the end of the jack shaft. The hub and shaft usually both have tapers and a key along with a nut on the end to force and hold the two together.

The Mason-Duesenberg behind Wilcox's car looks like it's the #5 of Robert Evans. Any idea why his driving career only lasted for three years?

    Hey T,

I don't remember seeing a bed in your shop. But then again, i think Bluto has an aeroplane hanging from his rafters and i'm very sure you don't have the room for that.

Was this location in a Clint Eastwood movie by any chance? Looks familiar.

It's a model only a few feet long. I tryed to buy a prewar Zlin a few years ago AND did own the business end of a PT 19.

This picture I got from George Rand it a Gurney Nutting design for Napier powered record car.

After all I am a mechanic with University Degree in Art History :)

I was fortunate to find this Bosch magnet recharger so I can do magnets here in the shop instead of taking them out to be done. It's a big one about 14" tall and weighs about 80 lb. It will work on both 6 & 12 volts. It works great and the magnets end up with twice the strength necessary for an average spark which gives a hotter spark for a longer period of time. It ends up being just what Bosch specifies as with time the magnets lose their charge. Sometimes it can happen over the winter if the armature is stops in the wrong spot.

Racers back in the period this was made (late teens) and before used to recharge them regulary as vibration also causes them to lose strength.

It also has accessory plates so you can charge magnets up to 10" wide !!!
Anyone know of anything that has a mag with magnets that big??

Thats pretty childish. I have no problem with you guys taking photos from other sites and posting them there. That was not my argUment. If you actually read my post you'd know that you were not mentioned, so why did you even need to post anything other than to start something. I never mentioned how your panties get bunched anytime somebody corrects your mistakes now did I? I guess since I/we don't join in and post pictures of primates like you guys that means were not welcome in YOUR threads. With that said, I'd like to clear the air a bit and post something you might enjoy. It's an old car but not an old photo AND maybe it belongs in your guys' other thread but I am going to post it here anyways. If you don't go APE over it, call the forum police... whatever.

T-Head, that Bosch magnet recharger is a pretty cool piece of history.

The late teens or the early twenties.....Thanks for posting a photo and two points for the monkey. We like to have fun on the other thread and you are welcome on either. We need more people posting photos here and less nit picking which is the idea he and I are trying to get across.

Can you tell us more about the photo ?? and post more??
