Usually by winning one of their fortnightly quizzes. They go on line at midnight Central European Time - 7pm Eastern for those of you in the US of A - every second Friday and you have just 48 hours to solve them and write a 100-word (no more!) answer.

You can buy on from Joris at Hershey, he is a few rows away from me, stop by for directions. :)

  3. I was trying to figure that out. I thought Bob was saying you could only get one if the guy gave you one, for some reason or another like owning a pre 1919 or something.

I have seen that guy out at Hershey every year, thought he was selling them. He is always busy talking when I see him, plus I'm usually carrying heavy rusty goodies and don't wanna stop. Hahaaa. See you soon 37Kid, can't wait!

I was going to bring my 21 T to drive around, but I'm thinking of leaving it home now. Still not sure what I'm bringing for sale either. See you all there...

    Hi
I have joined HAMB today and I have to confess to being the owner of the Daimler. Not sure who took the pictures but they are terrific and are the only ones of the car on the hill, apart from one taken on the start line, as the failure occurred at the first steep left hand corner. The picture with the arrow and ? is pointing to the hand operated Klaxon. The comment about the transverse leaf spring causing sprocket mis alignment is spot on and a terrific observation from the photos and is something I was already working on as that is certainly a factor. The chain/s coming off completely destroyed the differential for the second time this year and now a much stronger one is fitted. A 58HP Daimler achieved FTD at Shelsley in 1909, 10 & 11 so i will be back next year. The engine is a 4 cylinder 10.431 litre, 154mm bore x 140mm stroke.
    Regards to all Daimler

When I won my second I asked if I could get it in British Racing Green, but apparently they're like Model Ts - any colour you like, as long as it's black.

If you are going to Hershey this year Joris from PreWarCar is easy to find at space RWB-1.

The space is right on the edge of the Chocolate and Red fields on a major aisle. He stayed with the 37Kid for a while who is not far away as he mentioned earlier, just on the other side of the divider so be sure to stop by and visit with him as he always brings treasures.

Racemaker press..... www.racemaker.com ..... Is another good friend is also there on my spaces and they have great racing books so be sure to see them also. They can probably also sell you a shirt from PreWarCar if Joris is out and about.

BRING THE T!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D By the way our daughter was 6 years old when she told me she could reach the pedals on my '12. I told her she was old enough to drive and off we went up the street to visit Grandma. The training wheels were removed from her bike a week later. The next 5 1/2 years will race by for you. Bob:)

What a pleasant suprise. Welcome to the HAMB.

Some of us are not so lucky to have event's such as Shelsley in our backyard but we are blessed to have Keith as our resident photographer who goes out of his way to share some stunning image's.

A distinctive looking track, can anyone ID it ?? The car looks fairly early, maybe a pre 1910 stripped passenger car.....

These two post cards are from 1906 on the beach in Florida, identified as Seabreeze which is in the middle of Daytona. The Stanley Steamer we are all familiar with along its records and big crash.

I wonder if the Ford was a prototype of the Model K Ford that Henry grew to hate along with all sixes after it?

1916 Chev 490 - Posted this article on the 1928 Chev 4 cylinder thread - Apparently it raced in the Denver area in the late teens early 20s before going to Australia - then NZ where it was restored and sold back to the US possibly in the 1990s. Does anyone know the whereabouts of it now?

Racing at the Northern Arizona Normal School, ca.1920. Photo from NAU Cline Library. We could use more "normal" schools like this today.

Two more photos of the Belch 490 and a period photo of a very similar 490 dirt tracker.

t-Head As to the big Ford racer, the timeline seems about right for a model K. Of all the Fords the Model K has always been one of my favorites. I really like the look of that big Ford. I also liked the R,S and Ns as well come to think about it although they were quite the opposite in stature.

Kume as to that Chevy I believe it was for sale in Hemmings in either the late 80s or early 90s. I spoke and corresponded with the guy when he had it for sale. He wanted a pretty good buck and it never seemed to have the history to justify the expense. If you know any good history on the car feel free to share-Jim

I think your right about provenance - may have been brewed up in aus. I found this photo from a google search which appears to be the same vehicle at Laguna but not sure what year it was taken.

I've always like the Model K Ford as well, finally saw one running up and down the road at the Redding, Ct. meet last month. Local collector is the new caretaker of the 1907 that was once in the Harrah collection. I think I've seen 6-8 of them over the years but this is the first one that was really being driven, had the top up and down, car has a great home. :)

I found a little time to look around about Model K Fords to see if my suspicions might be right. I found this photo of Henry and the car is identified as a Model K with a 1905 date, the information with it stated that this was at Cape May, New Jersey and its performance was also disappointing as the previous postcard stated. This was blamed on the crankshaft maker having not followed Fords specifications. It appears to be the same car seen in the earlier post at Daytona from 1906 where I have since found information stating that Frank Kulick drove it there.

I found another photo of possibly the same car also identified as a K with Henry in it. It was dated 1907 and it was identified again as a K. If the information is correct it said that Kulick and Bert Lorimer drove a K to victory in a 24 hour race at the State Fairgrounds in Detroit. The rules allowed car changes and after four hours they were 18 miles behind a Pope-Toledo when they exchanged it for a fresh car. They went on to win the event and lead by as much as 36 miles at one point.

While looking for Model K information I also found this very interesting photo. The caption stated that is was one of Henry Fords racers and Frank Kulick was driving it on the Grosse Point track.

If it is in fact one of Fords cars is I believe this is a Mercedes racing car. The radiator along with the shape of the front frame horns and other features in my eye have Mercedes written all over it. It appears to be a car that was built for short sprint races and perhaps the number on the hood while might be a 3 or a 5 which could lead to a positive ID??

Perhaps Henry purchased a Mercedes to study and had Kulick race it??

A Model 30 Packard top and an unknown roadster off of the road below in a contest of some type, possibly a hill climb.

    Hey Bob (& all)..
Please get us some good photos of the Hershey race car trials for this thread.
We had Hershey vendor spaces for race cars & parts for some 27 years running, but have not been back since moving South, 16 years ago. Used to try & stay in the vendor group area for all the race cars & parts, so great old stories (& parts)cold be swapped all day & night, picking through each other's stuff. We often brought a restored pre-war midget or sprint, and all sorts of old race car parts. Sure do miss it, even though SOME of the meets were miserable wet & muddy or freezing cold. Once slept in our vendor space in the open back of the pickup, and had frost all over me in the morning! Is there still a good size goup of vintage race car folks, all together at Hershey? Paxton used to buy up the whole section and offer the spaces to vintage race car folks who had race cars for show judging or, selling race cars & parts. Jim Etter always had some of the rarest and most unusual racing stuff, every year. Is he still there?
Please take some photos of the race car parts vendor's tables & spaces for us, if you get a chance. Hope you have Blue skies!

  28. Got this and some more photos over the weekend. Don't know much about it except it is Winchester Speedway and the car has a chrome frame.
