[IMG] The radiator fairing was an addon. this car finished 4th in the first INDY 500 in 1911. Had a HISSO V8 installed by Larry Beals in the 1920. Souls about 12-15 years ago in Germany with a Four cylinder 1908 style restoration. Sat in the car before it was shipped out. One car that should have stayed here in its 1920's race car appearance IMO.

If you like photos of rare Sutz racers...
(It is actually a Merkel Motorcycle-engined 60 inch wheel base copy of Earl Cooper's Stutz big car) circa 1914-15.
Alex Pabst won the Junior Vanderbilt Cup Race and the Grand Prize trophy in it.

this was probably the last time he drove the car...

I guess Alex Pabst was one of the brewing family...

It's hard to imagine how Spencer might have felt if he'd completed those races only 3 days after finishing the Vanderbilt (3rd)

Great to have you back posting! I know there were cyclecars with tandem seating, but were there GP cars as well? [IMG]

An interesting postcard captioned.... Croquet on Schneider race car, 18hp engine, 4 cylinders during 'Grand Prix de l' A.C.F.' 1539km, June 26, 1912. Croquet finished on seventh position.

Michelin 935x135 studded ("anti side-slip":p): taken at the quite fascinating Reims auto museum, well worth a visit! Now that you're aware of these I'm sure you'll now be seeing more & more of them in the old pics.

And I just can't help myself... here's one such example.

  22. Found this in a local antique shop today. I don't think it is local to me. Anyone have a guess where this is? I don't know???

I thought of cycle cars just after I made my post, did that car actually exist outside the artists imagination? Very nice piece of artwork. How are things on the Eastern Front?:)

Couldn't get the camera to focus well, but this 1907 Darracq has the Michelin tires too, rears have 5 studs vs the 3 on the fronts.

  25. When one looks at the vintage racers that set so high....is this something that in that time was necessary or had not discover a lower CG was better?
