I bought these today while killing time on my lunch hour. don't know anything about them. 37kid sent me looking for this thread.

They're about 4.25" x 2.50" and seem to be printed on some pretty old photo paper.

    Nice score Nick!

All of the photos are from the 1914 Elgin National Road Races held at Elgin, Illinois from the 21st-22nd August.

The #1 car in the first photo is the Stutz-Wisconsin driven by Frank Dearborn that finished 7th. I can't make out the other car unfortunately. Going by the date on the back of the photo this was during the Chicago Auto Club Trophy race.
The second photo is Lewis Heinemann in a Marmon but it's difficult to pinpoint the date it was actually taken as he also wore the same race number during the Elgin National Trophy race on the 22nd August where he finished 13th after 21 laps. He did however finish in 6th place the day before.
The next two photos are the #29 Sunbeam of Gaston Morris. He suffered from magneto problems during the Chicago A.C. Trophy race and finished 15th after 11 laps. I guess he is trying to address the problem in the first photo.
I thought long about the last photo, thinking it could be the Mercer driven by Spencer Wishart during the Elgin National Trophy race but i've seen a photo of his accident and the surrounding doesn't look familiar. It might in fact be the #7 Marmon of Mel Stringer who crashed during practice for the Chicago A.C. Trophy.

    Hope this helps.

Is this car at the IMS Museum related to the one above? Gary

They are similar, the car at the IMS is one of a batch that Willie Vanderbilt had Renault ***emble for use in a Vanderbilt Cup Race. Somewhere around three or four of them have survived.

Wow, just... wow. I never thought I would have found a piece of history in an antique shop full of reproductions and frilly foo-foo soaps...
