It is indeed the beautiful Kay Petre. But it's January 1937, not 1936 :)

Kay and Bernd became very good friends on the trip, but as Bernd was newly-married and accompanied by his new bride I doubt there was anything scandalous going on!

However, when Bernd arrived in Britain for the 1937 Donington Grand Prix, just about the first thing he did was visit Kay in hospital, where she was recovering from the accident which ultimately ended her racing career - a collision with the car of Reg Parnell on the banking at Brooklands, which also caused Parnell to lose his racing licence for a year.

Many tks Vitesse for the supplementary info... and the "vitesse" you found my typo error! One lesson learned: Stop typing while you are talking to your pretty neighbour lady!
All right: No doubt you can enlighten us with more insight comments about the so often titled "Golden Era of Racing". Hope to read you soon.

Is this the Auto Union C driven by Rosemeyer at the 1936 German GP?

Probably: the surface design of the scale platform looks the same shown in other German GP pics of the period held at Nurburgring. The A-U nº 4 was used by the winner Rosemeyer at Italy and Switzerland GP that year too and has been widely replicated by well known model makers.

I got to sit in that car and hold the steering wheel before it returned to Germany about 10 years ago. It finished the 1911 INDY 500 in 4th place. Larry Beals installed a HISSO V8 in the chassis and raced it in the early 1920's. [IMG]

The 1908 Mercedes with the HISSO V8 at Pottsville, Pa. June 7, 1924, Larry Beals at the wheel.

This post is not directly relating to a racing car, but we have, with the help of one of our readers, uncovered old information dating a Welch car engine with three inverted valves per cylinder in a spherical combustion chamber with an OHC to what may have been 1902. Follow this link to theoldmotor.com to read more and see many more photos.

Would anyone have pictures of the Tracta team in the 1928 Le Mans edition please?

Perhaps those sneaky Germans inflated their tires with Hydorgyn, thus rendering the cars lighter............or with carbon di oxide to make them heavier....

Kinda of a newbe here, first post, but I've enjoyed this site for quite some time. I found a cool photo of 1920 Monroe last night. I don't believe this has been posted before. I think the picture was taken the week before the 1920 Indy 500. I've seen similar photos of Louis C. & Bennie Hill pumping Alemite, but not of the eventual winner.

Oh yeah, yesterday was Gaston's birthday!

Nuvolari in the Alfa Romeo 12C-36 losing a rear tyre and falling to the back of the field during the Czechoslovakian GP at Brno, 1937. This is the last time he would finish a race for the Italian team.
