    I read his book, the description about driving the Razorblade and all his general speed exploits at brooklands are things every gear head should read.

    Is the cable stretched across the track for timing / scoring? I wonder what a multiple broadslide skid would do to it.

    Marking the start line. The picture was taken while Hornsted was attacking standing start records at Brooklands. IIRC this is from the December 22nd 1913 session.

    The colour on the cigarette card doesn't correspond to the photograph though: in Hornsted's ownership the car was known as the Big Black Benz, although it was actually painted a dark midnight blue.
