I'm not complaining. In hindsight i would have done things alot differently so this really is like a coffee table book. Thanks for helping keep the thread alive. Now, tell me what you know about the '32 Oakland 150 race. I've searched but found no mention of it.
I really don`t know much about 1932 Oakland. I did find the results are on Champcarstats.com One mile dirt oval-150 mile race. http://www.champcarstats.com/races/193206.htm The 1932 Season had only Indy and the rest were dirt ovals,no more Board tracks.

Very interesting article. I never knew the back story of his 1935 win. I did know of his many troubles with his temper and mental stabilty. Many brushes with the law. A sad story.

well...it spent 25+ years interned. 4 weekends of work and drove it from San Diego to San Francisco. great long weekend trip. It was converted to a tow truck by taking the back of the body and rear fenders off. Everything else is original to the car. inside the tool boxes still have the original paint. It was 2 tone green. 545 cu in straight 6. the picture was taken on the trip up from SD.
Oh to learn how to paint like that!!! makes me want to take an art cl***, but something tells me this is secret.
I've seen this photo with the enclosed Auto Union streamliner before, but I've never been able to find anything clearer or newer (or anything else at all, in fact). I suppose none survived in this setup. That's a tremendously cool looking race car.

"I have this photo of a T-Head Mercer Racing car and driver I would like to identify. " Tough to say,as the background is indistinct,but it looks like it Could be IMS. There was the Prest-O-Lite plant water tank across from T-1 at Indy. It looks like the white painted crash walls they had at Indy in your photo to me. I don`t know of any auto factories that had their own speedway on site that look like this. I have Hugie Hughes and Charles Bigelow in Mercers at Indy in 1911,but they are # 36 and #37.... Puzzling,because as far as I know they didn`t run with spare tires mounted on the cars at Indy.
Welcome aboard T-Head. The #11 was used by Hughie Hughes at the 1911 Quaker City 200 miler in Philadelphia but i don't think that is Hughes in the first photo you posted. Looks very familiar though, the name escapes me but it's on the tip of my tongue. We did some small investigating on the Mercer cars a while back and i kept some info i had gathered. I'll check and get back to you later.

big hood. The 35J's had a very long racing career, many seemed to have shown back up under different monikers long after they should not have been compe***ive. There was one that competed in the Santa Monica GP in '15 (though rebadged as a special, which I will pull when i get home)
