I think that's a post war 'Willis Special" originally it was BMW 315/1

I have a set of those wheels

I suspect it is far faster than it was,

The BMWs are quick ..... I spent much of my life making them faster.

I still think Mrs B's single seater will be as quick as my 328's

I think you will find that Miller,Offy, & most pure racing crankshafts were & continue to be machined from steel round bars.

  3. Yup! If you keep at it, Sophie's car will surprise a lot of guys.

The guy who owns the Willis BMW is the fellow who lost the pre-selector tranny at Sonoma in May. That's the one that I asked you about. They ended up putting a BMW four speed in it.

Or a Volvo trans. They fit and work well....... almost a bolt in

  5. Yeah! Just like Jan has in his Fronty Ford. I told the guys with the Willis that a Volvo was a reasonable alternative; but, Noooooo!!!!

Incidentally, Jan's bride bought him a Type 35 "Bug", last year. I beat him. He brought back the Ford, this year. I STILL beat him! Bad, this time. He must be putting too much wine down the wrong opening. His wife also bought a Tuscan mansion, west of Paso. She bought a vineyard in San Miguel. When you are in SoCal, you ought to come up to the Central Coast; and we'll make a tour:D

Sorry, boys, for going OT; but some things are too funny, not to broadcast.

The lesson is: "Sometime, people never learn!"

This is about prewar racing and I am sure there have been ''Bug Stompers'' ever since the first one came to a race track. :)

Old Dawg, Thank you very much for that video! Monterey and Pebble Beach have been on my "Bucket List" for well over 30 years now. Bob

To all out there that share Bob's wishes for these events:

It's much more fun if you go with someone entered and see these events from the inside :)

2014 may be the year! A friend and HAMB lurker will be there with his Model B Ford powered Type 37 Bugatti, an old ARCA car. Bob :D

  12. Well! Now you know me. I always greet folks that come into my paddock area; and tell me they're on the HAMB. Why, I had "Fur Biscuit" come in and tell me that "Bluto" sent him! I asked, "Sent you for what?" Actually, Doug (Fur) and I have had a good relationship since.

Harry Pallenberg (Where They Raced producer) dropped by this August, at Monterey.

Frankly, to me, it's all about "the folks":)

I'm very sure Doug has his nose firmly planted in books studying for yet another degree.

  17. That may be! His PM box is full. He last posted on the HAMB in August '13. He's not been around the tracks (Sonoma or Monterey) that I know of. He told me, a while ago, that he wanted to finish his Ford T project. I've got to find his card; and try to call him.

I'll try to keep you all posted.

  18. I'm not sure it this is the thread on which to post this; but, we will be running our car on the 2 mile oval at Fontana (East of Los Angeles), the AAA Speedway (formerly the California Speedway) in an at speed exhibition. That will be on October 18th and 19th, during the Indy Racing League weekend. I believe Tom Malloy is finally going to bring out the 1941 4th place finisher, a Novi engined 1935 Miller Ford. (below photo)

From there we will travel down to the Circuit of the Americas, in Austin Texas, to run in the U.S.National Vintage Automobile Championship Races, October 23rd though the 29th.

Thanks for posting the photo of the #54 Miller Ford, just looked through the Fox INDY 500 book, that car finished well many times. I've never seen a current photo of it, does it still have a NOVI under the hood? Bob

IIRC, 3-4 years ago Malloy snagged up a shit load of Novi engines/ parts that were found in a wearhouse in Mi.

That has to be one of the greatest INDY car parts finds! I really like to looks of the exhaust on the 1940 Offy powered version. Bob :)

  23. Tom has planned to put one of the Winfield V8's in this replica of one of the fifties' Novi's The original car is apparently long gone; and this one is nearly exact. It had a Maserati V8.

  24. I think it would be rather invigorating to have that supercharger sharing the cockpit.:D

I was always told of the unique sound the Novi made. Any links other than a couple I found on youtube?

  27. Not that I've seen; but, if you go over to AAA Speedway on Friday, October 18th, you might be able to see Malloy's Winfield engine (Novi) car run. I'm not too sure how much the admission is, in that it's an IRL event. Victory Lane magazine people say there is a $35 special deal; but, I think you might have to get it through them.

We'll be running a car in the Victory Lane sponsored exhibition on the track Friday at, somewhere around 10 am to Noon; and about 4 pm in the afternoon.
