Happy Birthday Louis Chevrolet, born Christmas day 1878. Here is an image of the #3 Frontenac which Louie qualified on the front row of the 1920 Indy 500. This car no longer exists, 3-D artwork by Dan Palatnik and yours truly. For more details please visit: https://www.chevroletbrothers.com/3-d-artwork Composite LJC Memorial.jpg

That car looks surprisingly modern and aerodynamically efficient, achieving a good aspect ratio within the confines of a limited wheelbase.

  9. Again this year we are invited to "The Reunion" (formerly known as The Historics) at Laguna Seca The run Group is labeled "PreWar Single Seat Gran Prix Cars" I can count on all my fingers on one; and a few on the other hand as to the number of such cars in this, the US of A; which are actively run in race events. Most other being in museums or stashed away in a collector/speculator's warehouse! I've convinced the selection committee that American built race cars ran against European race cars at the Vanderbilt Cup Races in 1936 & '37 at Roosevelt Raceway. The best place was that RMMR2021910 (4).jpeg a U.S. car could do against the likes of Auto Union; Alfa Romeo and Mercedes!

The one Vanderbilt car I'd like to find the remains of. It ended its racing career around 1953 when it got rolled into a ball. I'd pay well for all or part of the remains. Bob Top-9256_edited-1_620_555.jpg 12393626133_b06f978c15.jpg

This is what it looked like when the second to last driver raced it.

WOW! What a great looking car! Left side exhaust so I'm guessing it had a BB RAJO head. Is that a Model A Ford front crossmember? Thank you for posting it Kurtis.

    Beautiful car !
That car has a Model T rear end, and a T front crossmember.
I agree, probably a "BB" Rajo with the exhaust out the left side.

    Here's my "T" "BB" Rajo powered car, almost the same view. sprint car 2 - 16 - 14 003.jpg

  16. Re: the car with the "Miller Looking" radiator shell.
Looks like an Essex frame, doesn't it Pete? Pete; do you think it might be the front axle of an Essex? I say this because if you look close; it doesn't have the same "Kick up" on the corner as a Model T!

  17. BTW Peter! Why not put a pillow in the seat of that car that you've been working on since I met you (which can be measured in decades) LOL! And bring it (you don't even have o paint it) up to Buttonwillow Raceway on next May 13th, 14th, and 15th! I'll pay your entry fee (no kidding)!

Brian will be there; but is not bring old cars, He's bring a Can Am and Trans Am Car

Good call, I'd say, re the Essex frame. I recall that a similar frame on the Hooker Special was often mistaken for a Miller frame, when in fact it appears to have come from an Essex. I'm no expert on stock car frames, but I think you may have nailed this one!

What threw me initially was the front end of the frame looking very Miller ('cept for the cross member), plus the radiator shell - only, there were precious few Millers with left-hand exhaust, and only one of them with a frame like this and that had the pitman arm on the other side! Plus, of course, that's not a Miller front axle. It's not a Model T, either, but that's as far as I can get...

Stanley Babinski, of Sloatsburg/NY, raced a Bab Special in several independent (ARA, NEBCRA, Central-Pennsy, EIRC, AMRA) races in the PA/NY area between 1934 and '39. Can't say I can identify the man, but I don't have any other car by that name in my records. Said to be a Fronty.

    Random observations:
Driver's fingernails appear to be painted. Is that for some kind of signaling or just a fashion statement?
That's a tiny fuel pressure pump. Did it have a small fuel tank for short tracks?
Cowling repairs are sorta slap-dash. Maybe the car was recently rolled?

This first photo came to light recently in my dad's old records. It shows him (in bowler hat) viewing racing cars garaged in Okell's Falcon Brewery yard back in
My dad was Head Brewer and then Director at Okell's Falcon Brewery from 1902 (aged 22) until his passing in 1944. The old brewery is now apartments as shown in the third photo. The middle photo was posted earlier by Gerald Parkhouse and shows a racing car in 1908.

I love Jarrott's Wolseley. Best looking car in the Gordon Bennett era.
