Just worked with 2 companies to move my Father vehicle, and got SCAMMED big time. The 2 companies are Fairway Auto Transport and Amal Delivery Express. Fairway is a broker out of Florida, runs the business out of his house and uses different names, ( Jonathon & Andy), both the sames person. Received my paperwork from Fairway, $175.00 down, and $550.00 on delivery. Upon delivery Amal Express demanded more money and if I did not give them the money, they where going to lock the car up in storage, charge me $75.00 a day, and not tell me where the car was at. The Police where called in, but could not do anything because it was a civil matter. The U.S.D.O.T. was notified and a case has been file against both companies, both companies do have several complaints. My advise to anybody needing a car shipped, Don't deal with a BROKER, all he does is call a trucking company and makes money for making a phone call. Deal only with a trucker or the trucking firm. I will be going to court with this issue. anybody else have an experience like this one?

    thanks for any info

Have a good lawyer read your contract with them and deal with them.

Well, we have guys post their services on the HAMB - O- Dex who are old car guys and transport all the time and treat your car as if it was there own.

Why didn't you use one of them ?

Is it because who you picked was the cheapest price ?
You get what you pay for you know.

I have used Racinman and Ben D and if you look, many other HAMB'rs have been happy too !

Thanks for the heads up - but next time use a fellow HAMB'r is my suggestion.

  11. When you go to court, bring in some storage quotes from other places that tow cars in the area. If they're hitting double everyone else they'll look even worse.

there's a guy in minot on hwy 2 just west of town. has a lot full of old cars/trucks. I think his web site is hotrodgarage.com.
he helped me ship two trucks from north dakota to alabama last year. I think he posts vehicles on a web site with a price on them for delivery and the delivery folks look at the site and pick their loads from that.
I found the guy at the hotrodgarage very helpful though, especially considering that I didn't buy any of the trucks from him.
y'all have a good day, Keith

This company will get what is coming to them, and I hope the USDOT suspends there license.

  16. There are several options here on the HAMB for transport

What you are experiencing is common for hiring a broker

I helped out a HAMBer who actually did lose a large deposit
    but eventually got it back:

A broker just wants the credit card deposit - the actual
hauling is done by another party

Bulk transport offers cheap prices that are below the cost
of actual transport - but you are dealing with an anonymous
hauler who can & often does add additional charges

Personally, I do not take deposits

Lately, lots of guys backing out of car deals and leaving
serious money on the table .......

Any HAMBer who is looking for transport just needs
to do a keyword search using 'transport' here on the HAMB

Ultimately you DO get what you pay for ....

  17. I'm sorry you got burnt,,but you have been a member of the hamb since 2007 you had to know about all the people here that haul cars.

I have had the pleasure of dealing with BenD,Stevie G and Racinman Rick and this is just 3 of many, they all do a great job and I am sure the rest of the folks do a great job too.

Pick up the phone and call one of them or send a PM next time,,don't expect them to call you. HRP

I have over the years used many car transporters and always steered away from Brokers since they do nothing but phone calls and exchange information. I met Ben D here and used him and he is tops in my eyes. Nice, friendly and reasonable so what else do you want?

Of course it's too late to be helpful but I don't understand the police's view of the matter. Seems like a pretty clear case of extortion to me and that's a criminal matter not civil.

You placed a ad that maybe a HAMB transporter saw or nobody saw. Did you contact and speak to any one of the 5-6 guys who post their transport services in the HAMB O DEX ?

Please don't get me wrong I feel for ya - I really do and appreiciate the heads up.

Was this your post for transporting from Phoenix to Minneapolis ?
If so, with your post of $ 175.00 down and $ 550.00 delivery ( $ 725.00 total) for 1650 miles is down right nothing even to cover for fuel costs. Fuel alone at 10 miles per gallon would be about $ 475.00.

Was this thing on a semi with abunch of other cars or what ?
And going through a broker - oh man.

Do you have all copies of the contract signed by all parties ? ALL PARTIES ?

Granted - the guy holding your car is leagally taking a risk if you have a contract.

How much more does he want paid if I may ask ? If you don't want to post I understand.

    Man I feel for ya......

Going forward for future stuff- YOU CONTACT THEM AS THEY ARE TRAVELING....
USE HAMB'rs Racinman ( Rick), BenD and Jim at Truelyvintage or others on the HAMB O Dex.

As far as a body in the Dakota's to the Twin Cities - heck - rent a pick up or borrow a friends for a full tank or wash or all of it or dinner etc. and go get it your self . Long Day trip looks like to me. The body should fit in the back of the truck.

    Good luck

I think most car haulers for hire on here advertise in the misc. for sale ads. Check em out. I used a fellow hamber to haul parts to N.C. at a very reasonable cost, lot's cheaper than fed-ex and the others. Espically if there going that direction already.

I am sorry to hear about your problems but I need to speak up in defense of the Broker system.
There are thousands of car carriers criss-crossing the country moving used cars from dealers to auctions or better markets etc.
They are all tied to a broker system to fill empty spots on their trucks and make there journeys more efficent. It brings the prices down for the car owners and the operating costs for the car hauler. Are there bad apples? Sure, but in general the system works.
The same thing exists btw for empty space on semi trucks.
I have cars transported all the time. I buy cars for european clients all over the western states to ship from Oakland. My broker Art gives me great prices, contacts the car owners and arranges the pickup details. His services are vital to my success.

  25. Just to be clear here ....

All I found regarding a post for hauling made by you was this:

If a HAMBer needs a haul, they can contact any one of several
guys & gals here on the HAMB

Or there is an active social group where you can post for
    a car or parts relay:

In either case, if you need transport you need to reach out
and contact the HAMB community directly by sending
out a PM/email or calling transporters.

I've used FedX and Reliable several times and always deal direct with the company. Their bids have been within a few dollars of each other. I usually take the one that has the fastest hookup. When I sell a car I want it out of the shop ASAP after I get the money. Likewise when purchasing a car I want it as quickly as possible.

I recently had a car shipped across country from Florida by National transport. I was naive about transporting and didn't know about the risk dealing with a broker. I guess I lucked out. My instructions on placing the car on the lower deck close to the cab to limit wind buffeting was done, and the guy who delivered it could not have been more helpful. So the transport was fine but the car is a POS:D

I'm in trucking, and not ALL but most brokers use outside trucks to haul their goods. If at all possible, deal directly with the owner/trucker/driver so there's not 2nd/3rd hand MIS-information and it will most likely keep your over all cost down too. If you hire a legit trucking co that has a DOT # you can look them up on USDOT.gov to see if they have complaints against them, if they have atleast one I recommend NOT using them. Some brokers take loads, hire trucks to move them and then never pay them and change their names and do it all over again. A direct truck that shows up and demands more $ is EXTORTING you, call the cops and have your contract in hand to show them what you agreed to pay and then have the trucker explain why he wants more to the cops. Basically, if he will not deliver your vehicle, he's stealing it (especially if he leaves with it). Grand theft auto is a crime. Uship has some quality people on it who transport cars, decent prices but if there's HAMB'ers who are recommended I'd use them first any day!! Good luck guys..:)

the trucking firm had a totally different looking paperwork work in his hand than what I had. when the police asked the driver why he wanted more money, he had no answer but that what was on his paper. the police asked the drive if he was contracted though Fairway, and he said yes. the police did tell me that the driver was extorting money from me, but it still was a civil matter. Next time I hope I can get some HAMBER to move my vehicles for me.

Another one that is a crook is Showtime Pro-Formance Motorsports in Heflin Alabama, one of his trucks and drivers ran into my truck at the Flying J truck stop in Nevada, ol glynn said we'll pay for the bumper send a bill, ha that was 4 years ago and never had paid, called him several times and alsop left messages what a piece of work, then he hauled a 37 Chevy woodie 1 ton truck from Reno to the midwest and just about totaled it in the trailer, ruined the grill and the top of the cab, that owner was pissed and ole glynn crook (real name ) wouldn't pay up on that one either, the problem is is that it is a Federal case as it involves interstate travel, glynn skates again.
