Engine running is a HUGE deal!!! Congrats!

  2. After hearing this thing run, I realized just how badly I need mufflers! My exhaust system has no room for normal mufflers, so I have to build some sort of baffles in the 5" stacks. (I really don't want to cut the stacks and add normal truck mufflers) Has anyone here attempted building their own baffles to slip into an exhaust stack?
What I'm thinking of is similar in concept to motorcycle baffles, but all metal, no fibergl*** filament.

    this might help?

  4. I'll build a baffle system as the primary noise reduction system and then experiment with a "Helmholtz resonator".
I have found videos on how to fabricate one and am interested in trying to build one. There are a couple different styles, but they use exhaust sound waves to cancel other sound waves. (I kind of understand how they work) They work at specific RPM, so I'll set it up for 55 mph, Maybe obnoxious in town, but tolerable on the highway.
For those that are not familiar, have you noticed odd dead end tubes that go nowhere on modern automotive intake piping between the air filter and intake manifold? Those are a Helmholtz Resonator being used to "tune" the sound of incoming air.

  5. What have others used for finish on the underside of your fenders? I have used acrylic modified asphalt driveway sealer on a daily driver pick-up and it held up quite well, At $10 or less per gallon it is extremely cheap. Only reason I ask, is it seems a little crude for a truck I've worked on for over 20 years. LOL
The good news is I've got one bed side final sanded and ready for paint. I would have sprayed it this evening, but I'm cursed with really humid weather today, so I will try again tomorrow!

  6. Here is my try at making "muffler guts" to fit in my 5" exhaust stacks. I followed the principle that sound waves don't like to bend around corners. I left a 2" straight through pipe in the center with baffles that don't allow any straight through p***age around the outside of the 2" pipe. I can decide later if I want the 2" pipe open or closed as the outside baffled area will flow enough volume to keep the engine happy. Might even be able to rig the 2" pipe as a cut-out. Lots of work with a plasma cutter and a bunch of 1/8" stainless.

    Truly a piece of artwork!

  8. I shot the first olive drab on the body tonight. Not much to look at, but I painted where the fenders will bolt on, along with the back side of the bed doors. Now I can mount these, prep the inside of the bed sides and shoot the whole bed at once. I want to get this done in the next couple of days, so I can roll it outside and turn it around, (before the snow arrives) then I can spend the winter working on the front half of the truck. (****s to have a "too small" garage)

  10. I got the bed sides painted tonight. Other than umpteen suicidal mosquitos, it looks great!
