   I think I have established that the engine should be a 239 Flathead V8 in my 51 Ford F1, however, did the orginal 51 have an automatic or manual transmission. Something tells me that it its a automatic, but something else tells me that automatics came out a lot later

   51 truck would have had 2 choices 3 or 4 speed manual.
