    I got another automatic/cruise-o-matic question.

Last night when moving the thunderturd back into its garage space from where i just left it out and walk away in anger from the problems i had with the cursed-o-matic. I noticed something. At cold temps it pulled better and also i heard a chatter that sounded like its came from up front like a torque converter.

If a torque converter is failing or has failed what problems do you normaly have?

    Chatter?
    lack of transmission pressure?
slipping in reverse and low gear?
Thats what i got going on

Did you check your fluid level? You would be surprised at how many people run a trans with low fluid. Did you check the fluid to see if it looked & smelled burnt? The first thing I would do is change the fluid & filter and see if it improves at all. My guess is it is a bad pump. Usually when you have low pressure it is a bad pump or an internal leak in the trans. I'm not big on the Ford stuff but if that trans is vacuum moduglated I would also check to see if you have vacuum. Good luck with it. Damn Fords!

No vacuum at all in that trans it all works off fluid pressures.
The fluid is all new and very clean. The cruise-o-matic uses a cleanable steel mesh filter it was spotless.
I plan on hooking the guages up to iit when i get back from wakeman..

I had a 59 Galaxie with a bad trans. It had the aluminum "ford-o-matic". It was completly dead. I had to have it rebuilt. Total rebuild with parts and flush out of the convertor cost me $450. That was with me R&Ring the trans. If your interested I could get you the guys info who did it for me.

if your ****omatic has never been rebuild ill bet you the orings and seals are all hard and cracked. just went thru the same thing with a 64 tbird. chatterd bad on 1-2 shift. if you get it rebuilt, make sure you spend the extra and have the torque converter cut and cleaned as the ac***ulated junk in it WILL f-up your new trans.dont ask me how mr. cheapo found out.
