Hello everyone, new here need a spedo cable answer. I've got a 1947 1 ton with the original 4 spd and upgraded 12 volt system now to see how slow or fast I'm really going. Using the autometer mechanical spedo. Thanks for the help in advance

hi, what's the question? are you wondering if it will work? It should, assuming you still have the original rearend gears and tire size.

Or are you wondering what speedometer cable to get?

Try getting a speedo cable for an early 60s ford car? and the appropriate speedo driven gear and retaining clip.

I'm assuming the speedo has a 5/8" thread, and the trans has a hole in it.

To get the right gear tooth count it helps to know the rearend gear ratio, tire diameter, and the number of teeth on the drive gear that's on the transmission output shaft.

actually the early ford speedos are adjustable. lever around the pointer spring will adj. the rate of the needle swing. I went from a 3.78 banjo to a 2.73 - 9" and only adjusted the speedo. is correct to within 1-2 mph of a radar sign.
the odometer will not be correct without the correct speedo gear..

All speedos are adjustable that way, but that adjustment isn't really intended to make up for having the wrong gear in the transmission....

Give a call to the guys up at Speedometer Services (414.463.6660). A guy named Roger runs the tech department there and he can definitely get you sorted out. We've used him for cables/adapters/etc for years. Knows his stuff and reasonable.
