Rhode Island Wire carries brand new cloth covered fire retardant wire in every size/color imaginable. Thier catalog is fantastic, everything you need to wire your car brand new but with that beautiful old look. My next project will be done completely in thier wire. They even have cloth covered battery cable.

Skip is Desoto. He buys his wire from one of those RI guys, but can custom create a loom for you. And he has his own looming machine to make it all look great. Any car guy who does wiring should buy his book.

Just a quick question... why are you going to the expense (and it will be a lot) to use cloth wire in a car with SBC and AC? Cloth wire was gone from production cars by 1955, so you aren't really staying true to the "period". As if the AC didn't already blow that.

The modern reproduction cloth covered wire is modern insulated wires covered with the braided thread so it is far superior to the original stuff.

    You talkin to me!? :)

Yeah, I knew that. Nobody makes it like they usta. I was just wondering why the guy was going for the "look" when he had a big ol' AC sticking right in your face.

Original cloth covered wire - pre '50's - was insulated with a RUBBER core and a FABRIC WRAP.

The rubber was BLACK and if you still are using it; your "playing with fire!!"
The RUBBER core will / has started to CRUMBLE under the fabric.
(and that goes for NOS stuff still on the spool you find at swap meets TOO!)

The ONLY KIND to use is the more modern PVC insulated wire with a FABRIC WRAP!
