    Automotive electrical.

those little rubber boot things... like, the ones with a hole in the back that slide over a wire in the center and then the bigger opening slides over a small light housing? It is like a mini shifter boot, but for electrical wiring?

Anyone know what those are called?

I've found terminal covers, boot covers, shifter boots, all sorts of things while searching but I have not hit on the right terminology yet.

Anyone know what they are called? I am trying to buy some.

I bought a vintage automotive light, was checking it out, pulled the old rubber one off of the back of the light to look at something, I was putting it back on and it disintegrated... cuz, old stuff is fun and all that.

Thanks, hopefully someone knows what I am talking about. :D

    Wire boot

They seem to be made for specific applications, not general purpose universal. So...whatever car you're working on, you can find them if it's a popular car that folks will pay a lot of money to buy repop parts for.

    Like old Corvettes.

    or some old Fords.

so search specifically for what you're looking for, and good luck!

Thanks squirrel, I was not having any luck at all so I was thinking maybe I should just look for a basic thing to use and then I was having luck finding all sorts of other fun things I didn't know about, but still not what I needed.

O.K., I will be more specific to the light I bought. Good idea.

    which, is this:

NOS Gl*** Lens Back Up Lamp Reverse Light 1949-1954 Dodge Chrysler UNITY 4865

Thanks again folks, that should get me back into the hunt.

Photo definitely helped lol. I had something similar on my 51 ford and I just pulled it back. Pressed out the pigtail from the base and put in a different pigtail, didn't come with the cover but the new ones were sealed.

    Thanks squirrel,

I was on that exact site the other day and I didn't get that far. Those are some good options.

I think any of those will work, it is for a custom thing anyway and will be hidden so no one will know but me. I just figured it would be better if it had some sorta boot on it.

  15. Looks like a vacuum cap with a hole in it. That is what I would use if they aren't commercially available.
