Years ago I remember seeing an ad in the back of an old magazine for a battery tender. On one end of the cord was a pair of alligator clips to attach to the battery, and the other end plugged into the cigarette lighter socket, so you could use the power from the lighter socket to keep the battery charged. I wonder how many people fell for that one?

Here's an oven to go along with your cooktop.;)

"MEALS can literally be cooked on the run through the use of the automatic cooker shown in the photo above. The cooker is mounted on the rear bumper of the motor tourist’s car and an extension from the exhaust pipe connected up with it, as shown in the insert. The cooker contains a steam pressure kettle which is heated by the hot exhaust gases. An hour’s drive is quite sufficient to thoroughly cook meats and vegetables. Total weight of the unit is so slight that running qualities of the car remain quite unaffected. Motor tours are much more pleasant when one is assured of a well-prepared meal at the end of the trip."

I hope that one doesn't develop an exhaust leak!

I've seen those sold as allegedly safer jumper cables, but a battery tender? It would be remarkably inefficient as a charger... Has someone alerted the Perpetual Motion Society?

Two of these inventions are still rolling along , lol. Airless tires are something they're still working on and can already be bought for atv/utv's. And engine heat cookers are alive and well in snowmobile circles... I had some pretty amazing muffler cooked shrimp scampi in the middle of a frozen solid mullet lake in Northern Michigan a few winters back.

The dog bag is my favorite though. Wtf?!?! Lol.

Holy hell. $14,000 in 1956 money is equivalent to $134,240.15 in today's money. o_O The only time I ever spent $14K on something that drank beer was when I bought her a new pair of boobs.

Lost all three in the divorce. :D:D:D

  29. In 1960, a friend of mine had a 56 Plymouth that had a record player. He said it was an option. When you think of it, it was a marvel at the time, because the only other option that would have been remotely portable, was reel to reel tape decks, which required 115 volts. The power converter to drive the tape deck would have been the real issue, because everything electronic was still powered by tubes, and a power supply back in those days would have cost more than the player.
I don't remember the year the 8 track players arrived, but they were considered to be a marvel.
Just think, you could be listening to your favourite song, and it would pause and switch the track in the middle of the song. We loved them just the same. I still have one somewhere in my basement.
