My wife's job brought us down to Tuscon, AZ for a few weeks. While she is slaving away for the Man, I have some free time on my hands. Is there anything to do around here car wise? Junkyards, shops, museums, etc. Also taking restaurant recommendations
not that I can find....except maybe the Franklin museum, and the drag strip is usually running on the weekends, but not much old stuff there. but if you're sightseeing in Bisbee or Tombstone, let me know ahead of time and you could stop by.
Ha, we had that discussion this morning about heading down that way. I would definitely take you up on that if it works out. I see there is a Franklin Auto Museum that might be worth checking out, as well as aircraft and missile(!) museums.
Oh yeah..not automotive, but the Pima Air museum in Tucson is great, and also the Missile museum by Tubac is a fun tour. Down in the silo....
Do a search for car shows in Tucson. Something usually turns up. There’s a Cars and Coffee event off Ina road in Tucson / Marana. It’s near the Ina Road I10 exit Thursday nights there’s a small gathering at Freddy’s in the Sprouts parking lot a few blocks away (Orange Grove and Thornydale / River Road. Maybe 20-40 cars, and more as the weather improves. Nothing formal, but it’s free. We often go there to see if there’s anything new, plus there’s a guy wandering around handing out tickets for free ice cream at Freddy’s. Makes a nice evening walk around the parking lot. It is active for a few hours, starting at maybe 4:30. There’s an upcoming event, including a car show, in Oro valley, at Tangerine and Oracle. Might be this weekend….check. Another in Florence on February 17 th, in conjunction with Founder’s day festivities. Florence is about an hour North, and you drive past the marker for the spot Tom Mix was killed in 1940 when he drove his Cord into a wash while speeding to Phoenix Goodguys is in Scottsdale shortly. That’s maybe a two hour drive from Marana. (March 15-17).
