With the steering column that long and going all the way up front, it HAS to have front steering. Also, there is absolutely no sign of anything even approaching steering linkage on the rear 3/4 of the car.
Here's a photo of the Christie racer - look at the angle of the front tires compared to the rear, sure looks like front steering.
TWO tires on the right front and one each on the rest? Looks like circle track races ran clockwise then, too.
Denny.......I gotta ask.....is that 'clockwise' a misstatement (typo) or an inside joke that I missed in an earlier post? Seems to me the two tires on right front would indicate counter-clockwise..... Ray
Ray - Just my age showing. You are, of course right, it's counter-clockwise. I did it enough that there should have been no reason to get it wrong. I guess that's what they call a "brain fart". Thanks for catching that.

I have control issues that barely allow me to ride in a taxicab, but this....? What did you think of it?
Since I build them for a living, it is a total non-event. I ride to, and from work, a few times a week, in rush-hour, San Francisco traffic. You'd never know that the safety operator is not controlling it.
On my drive home I seemed to be surrounded by cars that had no drivers. There was people sitting behind the wheel, but they didn't seem to be involved in doing any driving.
... and, now something really weird - surprise: from bad old USSR! Maybe some photo was presented before, but now there are more of them! It was designed and made in 1950/51 by construction biro of tractor factory, known then for hydraulic transmission systems for tractors. So, this strange "caterpillar" had 8 wheels and two-part chassis/body construction, with hydraulic motor-pump in each of the wheels independently sprung... Power was from GAZ M-20 POBEDA (victory) engine of 2150 cc and 50-55 HP at 3500 rev/min, depending on gasoline quality... (octane numbers between 66 and 72!) Dimensions: long 4530 мм, wide 1900 мм, high 1490 мм, and weight 600 kg... Weight is questionable, because engine and gearbox shouldn't be lighter than 150 kg and each of 8 wheels not less than 100 kg... Body is made of aluminum in aircraft-style construction, but chassis couldn't be light... Ciao, Zoran

And this is exactly why I build self-driving cars. I do it for you guys. I do it so that those who cannot be bothered to pay attention and not slam in to you won't even have the option. In the mean time, every ounce of settled tech we spin-off along the way goes toward keeping people in their lanes, and away from your fine rides.
