Want to build a AV8 Coupe due to the ****py weather in Indiana. Wife says get something we can all ride in. Anyway, half of me thinks it's a bad idea putting two boys in a rumble seat and going for ice cream and or local car cruise ins. We live in the city for the most part and speeds above 40mph would be rare. People just drive like retards these days, alway in a hurry. I guess I just think about their safety. We would ride in back of pickups when I was a kid. What's your opinion? Build a Roadster? haha..

If they were my two boys I'd either have a tudor or a phaeton.

When I think of an AV8 I always think roadster. I'm more of a coupe type guy but when it comes to Model a's I would go roadsters.

In terms of a rumble seat being safe, Naw man it's not safe but that doesn't mean on a Sunday you couldn't live on the edge a bit. I have a 35 that I'm in a similar boat with right now. I told my wife until that 54 is built, she's gotta drive or ride in the rumble seat so my son can ride up front. I have mixed feeling about kids being in open cars but I'm sure I would take that chance if the opportunity should arise.

In Indiana, if I were only to have one car, a coupe would be the no brainer but a roadster will beckon you sooner or later....it does us all!

Build the AV8 coupe with the rumble. Whether you put in the roll down back gl*** is up to you. I did the tudor thing with the Model A, and it ain't no family sedan. If you want a hot rod, build a hot rod. If you want something to take the whole family??? Buy a '37 slantback....

There are some talented people here. I'd bet they could make a beefed up rumble lid to lock solid in the open position. Then use race type belts over both shoulders.

My AV8 coupe is set up for a rumble seat, i dont have the cushions installed yet but its all there. Ive sat in the back of it in my garage. I gotta say its a little different feeling back there. I remember riding in my grandpas A coupe rumble seat about 20 years ago when i was a kid. I thought it was great. A roll down rear window was an option on a '30-'31 coupe, and you can still get them new. I say install one of those and go for it. but thats me.

I think a VW bug is likely more spacious then an A coupe, especially if you start thinking like a hotrodder (e.g. less firewall, positioning the seat back when you chop the top, trunk mounted gas tank, etc.). I still think you should build it....just give the kids a ride one at a time :)

This is good stuff. I think the memories they would have would ne priceless. I thought about the roll down back gl*** and seatbelts, stock has tank and battery in the floor. I think I will do it. Hello, already bought a complete 41 rear and the 6 Tardel let me help you books. But may have to do a Roadster. 30 31 or 28 29?
