Geez, that 5 speed is a good fit.

    Makin' me really think..........

  3. I'm hearing ya Stovebolt, but I think I've crossed that line. 3 speeds don't cut it especially when I'm driving....

Can't wait for more Dan, its looking good.

  4. Sweet Tech Dan....

    Cheers,

  5. Hi Guys,

Thanks for the kind words, as I was saying to Rat******* thismorning, I'm def more of a spectator then a participant in this whole thing. LowSquire is the man behind the scene, I'm just dishing out money and taking pics ahaha.

Still, hoping to get my hands dirtier as the installation comes along and help out where I can. I'm guessing leanring to weld isnt the best approach when fabbing structural componants like x-members and trans mounts.

Melbourne coffee lore? Well, I'd say that's pushin capuccino territory, which is 1/3,1/3,1/3. And for volumes you have to factor in gl*** taper. Nice caliper work though, that'd impress the ****ers in cafes!

  7. Ahahaha,

    I can see it now!!!

Dammit now I want to put a t5 in my A. I had one in my challenger behind a 340, but my advice is dont put stock T5's behind something with 500+ horse Here is an equation to use though:
    Stock T5+450HP=ok
Stock T5+500+HP=NO GO!!!!! They dont last too long with a 17 year old high schooler and power shifting my way to glory and dumping the clutch at 4 or 5 grand!
    Looks damn good though.

  9. Great work, guys. That Potvin 400 should really wake that old girl up, Danny. Don't go blowing it up now!

  10. Ahahaha,

well... it should either wake it up, or kill all drivability. I'm about to find out...

    Danny

  11. Thanks for the update.

That 5 speed fits better than my single rail.

With a 5 speed and a hotter cam it will really wake up that old flatty but can you control your right foot so that you won't be doing what Flatoz is doing right now:)

  12. Hi Guys,

    Another mini update.

The box is now mounted in the car, with the trans mount welded in place and everything set up as it should be. The tailshaft is being made up today (I'm getting a complete new piece, the old one wasn't worth saving) and should be ready to install tonight.

Ok, here is a pic of the underside of the jalopy. The plate you can see running between the two tubular rails is the bottom of the trans mount.

    The trans mount...

    Close up.

    From the rear.

From the side. You can see there is ample room between the wishbone mount and the trans (about an inch).

More news as it comes in guys.

Is it just me, or does it look like that g/box mount is not centred?
    I'm sure there's a reason for it.

  16. Hi Mate,

Do you mean the steel plate or the actual mount that attaches to the box? Nothing is bolted in yet, its just mocked up and hanging in there.

The holes on the ateel plate in oine of the photos appear to be off centre, could be the angle of the photo.

  18. Hi Mate,

I think its just an akward angle the photo is taken from. Either that or the cross members are not even side to side LOL.

    Danny

  19. I'll be popping in every sat to watch the progress.

    =]

Yeh the holes are off centre, the mount isnt exactly horizontal either..but these discrepencies seem to be in the toyota mount design..maybe the box is slightly twisted about its axis a few degrees in the original installation..thats my guess. the box itself is centred, i wasnt working drunk..promise.:D

The top of the mount is still to be welded..those rather wonky out of position welds wont be holding the whole thing up!
Should have it running and drivable tommorow night, then another days work to make a torque strut to save the rear wishbones from twisting off, and rebuild the floor i hacked the **** out of, to get it all in.

  22. Hey Ben,

C'mon son, you can add more tech to this post then just "rebuild floor that I hacked the **** out of'!!!!

"Those who can, do ,and those who cannot, teach."

    hahahaha

    god im cheeky.

no offense to the educators out there..

its just a lump of steel sheet with some strap around the edge, and its certainly not pretty enough to show, unlike your BRAND NEW driveshaft..just picked it up...you better bend WAY over Danny...was a bit expensive. i Talked him down eighty bucks though.:D

  25. Touche...

  26. Hey Guys,

Another mini update - basically its putting bits and pieces back together and getting ready to go for the virgin test run....

Ok, box is bolted in and the clutch hooked up. With the 10.5" clutch, pressure is firm but not the leg breaker I had been warned it would be.

Front suspenstion bolted back in - looks like a car again.

Yup, ****ed. Another $120 and I'm still not driving this piece of ****!

  29. This is why I love the EK.
Owned her for 10 years and the only thing i've ever done to the engine/box is change the plugs and oil.

  30. Ahahaha,

Thats why I love the hot rod, costs more, but can get out of its own way! :D
