Would there be any reason or advantage to use a '32 drop axle instead of a '28-'31 axle in an AV8 with a Model A frame? If I have both axles, which would be better? Anxious to hear your thoughts...
I'd prefer a nice looking drop on an A axle in a A V8. I have seen some nice drops on hamb, maybe 296's work? Just my opinion, but the 32 looks too beefy on the slightly trimmer/lighter design of the A body.
I agree, please give me first shot on the '32 heavy to help offset the cost of dropping your A axle. Bob
I'm using a 32 heavy on my Model A project. But I am also using a 32 frame. 296 dropped my axle. If you have your A or 32 axle dropped, he is the guy to go to. Pics show my axle being detailed out. Note that there is no distortion to speak of in the dropped area. Looks like it came from the factory that way. I'm thinking a 32 heavy axle would look just fine under a Model A frame. Note: Your Model A axle has 2.25" spring perch bosses. The 32 is 2.0"". You can get or make shims to use the 32 (through 36) axle with the wider jawed Model A and 37-48 wishbones. Going the other way requires machine work.
I have a non heavy 32/34 axle, spindles, spring, perches and 34 wishbone under my AV8. Nothing like an undropped axle for an early influenced car, plus all the parts just bolt on...
