Av8 Progress Pic - Right Direction?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Psychobilly Boi, Jun 21, 2004.

  1. Hi Crew,

I've slowly been chipping away at my Av8 ride with the help of a couple of fellow HAMBers (thanks LowSquire, RatBastard and FlatOz). Re did the front end, new kind pins, reset the leaf spring and moved the shocks to the front (LowSquires mechanical and fabrication skills are awe inspiring) and some new chrome headlights. Got some nice 16" rims and currently have 6.00 tyres all round. FlatOz has lent me some 5.00 firestones which I will try on for size.

After a compression test on the tired 8BA (and a reading of 45psi on one cylinder) a re-ring and inspection is in order. If all goes well I'll re-ring the pistons, lap the valves and re-assemble along with my new two pot sharp intake and a second carb. Might try out the Mopar dizzy conversions as well (you hearing me RatBastard? [IMG]).

Just wanted to show you a pic and see what everyones feedback was like - not fishing for compliments or anything, just trying to get a fresh perspective on how its looking.

  5. Hey,

Thanks for the positive comments - I cant take credit for building this ride as it was built by someone else (its my first rod). The previous owner did his best to uglyfy it (fridge magnets on the firewall, endless bullet hole stickers et al). With the help of some friends, I'm just trying to slowly fix it up and get it closer to where I want it to be.

  7. Hey Mate,

Been a while since we cought up - sorry I missed the house warming - the girl was sick and someone needed to look after the boy. Spoke to Joe - he is keen on the rims but I want to sell as a set (other wise im left with just bits and pieces).

    Looks great.

You'll eventually want to get some rubber rake by using taller rear tires or shorter front ones. Using the same size tires makes a hot rod look like a roller skate.

  13. Hey Dug,

I know I know, I dont own a digi cam but I am borrowing one. I'll add some more pix tommorow if I get a chance to take any tonight.

  14. Hey Haring,

Yeah I agree - the wheels I bought came with the 6.00 so I thought run what you have. A friend lent me some 5.00 16 so I will mount those on the front and see what it looks like. I think 7.00 (?) might be a good size for the rear?

  15. Geez, threads move WAAYYY to quick these days! I missed this completely. [IMG]

Lookin' pretty cool Dan. Need to put Frankie's paintin' skills to work to brighten her up a bit now [IMG].......or maybe that's just the miserable Melbourne winter light dulling her down! [IMG]

The wheels make a huge difference.

  16. Or you could just break out the rattlecans!

  17. Hey Pedro,

Thanks mate - I agree, the wheels make a ton of difference. You've been talking to mikee hey! Rattle cans....pfffft. Seriously I've been tempted, but might just keep the paint as is for a little while. I'd like to go a datin black no matt so may as well do it properly I guess.

    Hows your projects/rides comming along?

    Danny

  18. For your shopping list...
    16"x5.00 (front)
    16"x7.50 (rear)

Some more of that moroon paint (gloss) for the rims.

Even with those rims looks like an 100% improovement over previous.

    Cheers,

27T is getting cut up, crated, fumigated and shipped soon.

Got some other stuff happening with Kustom Ink that will cause a delay.

And I was gonna say 7.5s for the rear Drewfus, but I forgot!!

Ain't been speaking to MKK either! Maybe we've just got spray cans on the brain! Spray those rims though..... [IMG]

Anyone else goin' out to the Fridge at Ballarat for the swap on Sunday?
