Technical AV8 Steering

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by indomwe, Oct 25, 2024.

  1. What pitman arm should I be using on my AV8 build. I am using an F1 box in the stock location on the A frame. I wanted to use the model A drag link but the orientation of the ends is wrong for the pitman arm to work.

I am using 32 front steering arm

I have a 35-36 pitman arm that has a bolt on ball that would work but I will need to machine a new keyway/flat spot on the spline to get it to fit in the right orientation . I think this works but wanted some advice

Take a small triangle file and remove the flat splines. Basically make it all splines the complete way around. Might get your adjustment closer. But I still think you’ll need an adjustable drag link to get it perfect.

I've done several using Neal Jennings 37 Hudson boxes, 34 pitman arms with the forged ball on the insideso I could clear the outside mounted 32-34wishbone and I always made an adjustable drag link using original 32-34 tie rod ends. I think I think I still had to file the pitman to get it clocked correctly and to get the sweet spot in the right place?

100% that the model A drag link is not the correct length. The steering arm location on 32 spindle vs. Model A are in different locations.
