So now we're gonna wear our negativity on our windows? Geez . . . hard to believe that someone who builds cars different to what others like deserves his own hate sticker. Is it not enough to show up in a red wheeled black primered car? That pretty much tells the world what you're all about. Same for the guy who shows up in a smoothie or Boydster. To each his own, but it seems to me that simply making a statement with the car you build says more than any sticker ever could....
I'm gonna back C9 here. Y'all can do whatever you want, but I too will make my statements with my car. There's enough negativity around anyway. I don't like Boyd's style, but he does build cars the way he,or his customers, want them and I'll respect that. If you can't tell from my car that I'm anti-Boyd style, you aren't going to get it anyway. Just my 2 cents here, but when I see your sticker,I'll still smile.
I'm with ya C9, but dontchya know, it's COOL to hate Boyd!! It's the latest and greatest CRAZE!!! EVERY rockasilly ratrodder is doing it!!! Boyd started out building cars in his garage after work and on weekends. He did it like many of us, built a car...then sold it to finance the next one. Pretty soon, people started coming to him wanting cars built and he found himself needing to devote more time and space to BUILDING CARS because that was his true passion. So, he quits his job at Disneyland and starts churning out hot rods for customers. Soon enough, he's made a name for himself with cars like the Vern Luce Coupe, the Murray Phaeton and Musselman's car...people seek him out and his business grows. Sounds like pure evil to me??? He's hit some speedbumps along the way, and has had his share of personal issues, but he always bounces back. He was overweight and diabetic, risking serious health issues, so he went on an agressive diet and weight loss program and got himself slimmed down, beat back the disease through proper nutrition and lifestyle changes, all while battling to keep his business afloat through bankruptcy's, back-stabbing friend/employee betrayals, etc. Go ahead...hate him if you must...but there's far WORSE people in the world than him...people who would rather see hot rods abolished, and yet...y'all bag on a guy who's life has been about hot rods for over thirty years now?! Sure, I bash Chip some...I don't like his style and don't see any "genius" in what he does. But he's a car guy doing what he does, same as Boyd...only with cars that are even MORE outrageously billet-laden and over-smoothed...are you all forgetting just WHO designed the Boydster??? I just find it so hypocritical and ironic that so many chose to worship Chip and bash Boyd. Personally, I swing the other way...I don't always like what Boyd does, but he strikes me as a true car guy, and I find his cars to be interesting and cool more often than not. He's been around a long time, suffered through adversity and always comes back to doing what he loves...Hot Rods. I can't fault him for that. MAYBE in another twenty years Chip will be close to being in the same league, but for now I see him as just some wannabe that wasn't good enough to stay on working with Boyd!!
Have ya ever worked for him???? UMMMMM I have!! And he is a bigger dick then he seems.. Keep in mind this was in the 90's B4 his tv show ... when he was dealin coke outta his shop and treatin us like shit... SO yeah I think the sticker speaks for itself!!!
There is a huge difference between Boyd and Chip. Chip still gets in there and builds a car. He still has a passion for what he does. And he makes a damn good living from it. Boyd on the other hand. Has completely strayed from being an awesome car builder. I do have a considerable amount of respect for what he has done in the world of car building. What has he done lately? He doesn't touch a car anymore. He collects a great deal of money for cars that he puts his name on. He doesn't have the passion. Ganted, a company is only as good as the employees that make it happen. The whole sticker thing is just a bunch of fun. Many people rag on Jesse James since he was poisoned by being on the idiot box. But none can take away the fact that the guy gets his hands dirty every day, and has a passion for what he does. And was smart enough to capitalize off of his success.
To be fair I've never seen a Boyd car in person. But I did see Foose's Riddler winner last year at Autorama in Detroit. Not really my style of car but I must say that it is possibly the most beautiful car I have ever seen. The level of craftsmanship and attention to detail was amazing. Do I want to build a clone? No, but it inspires me to achieve that level of quality on my own rides. Also is it just me or do all the windshields on Boyd's street rods look a little "off". I think they are too smooth and modern for the body lines of the cars that they rid on.
i dont know any of them personaly, but, where i come from we have a builder who thinks he IS boyd. little beard, aloha print shirts, and a little posse of followers and a hollier than thou attitude. and his caliber of work does not compare to even blue bears. personaly, i would like sweep the floor in any of their shops for a week. chips, boyds or jessies.
MAN.... I was noticing that my sticker(avoid the boyd) was gettin old its been on 3 cars... SO i wanted to make more... But he is a real pain in the ass in person.. hence the sticker.. If ya like him thats cool help him pick pit hawaiian shirts and B ball caps .. might as well help him dye his beard and hair.......... Stickers are stickers Just keepin it real!!!!
I don't care if people think it's "trendy" to hate Boyd. I hated him before it was cool and I always will. His "style" and his character. Maybe you could make up some "Fuck that arrogant cookie cutter builder Boyd Coddington!" stickers sometime. I'd get one banner size across the windshield. I'm all about speadin' the hate. I guess for now put me down for 6.
Don't you mean "Boydcotter's" HAHAHAHAhahaha... I just laughed myself silly! Oh, and don't get me wrong, I like stickers, but I have parts to buy. Oh, and I should be in the garage cutting leaf mounts off of my new rear axle, rather than adding drama to the HAMB! Ben
