I am very sad to report that a beautiful 1954 Buick custom "Great Balls of Fire" was sideswiped on the driver side 100 yards from the exit of the Goodguys Orange County show. The car was comprehensively damaged down the whole left side, but the owners appear to be unhurt but obviously distressed. It had happened no more than a minute before I passed the spot but there was plenty of assistance already on hand. The purple candy and heavily flamed car had just won the 'Best 50s' award 20 minutes earlier. My condolences to the owners. I will try and ad a picture of the car shortly as I am sure XLKen won't mind me posting a shot from his show coverage.

I was not able to shoot photos of the damage, as it was pulled over at a dangerous intersection and the traffic was moving. This happened on the perimeter road around the fairgrounds. The poor wife was sitting on the grass verge in tears. The Buick was hit by a white Pontiac which had obviously miscalculated that the road narrowed and there was a couple of triangular concrete island use to prevent people from making an illegal left turn - it is one way to the right only. The Pontiac had apparently ridden over one of the concrete islands, badly damaging its undercarriage and come to a rest on top of the second island with it's rear wheels jammed against the curb. It looked as if the Pontiac had bounced off the first island into the side of the Buick which had been sitting yielded, as it should, to traffic from the left. The Buick was pulled over and stopped just around the corner, and from what I could see the driver's door had taken the brunt of the force, but the whole side of the car was pushed in. The owner was still sitting in the car, calling the police I would assume. I could only imagine what the couple was going through, having their pride and joy devastated. But thank goodness they do not appear to be injured.

That really sucks, glad there were no serious injuries from the wreck. Imagine there could be some to the other driver later on though. Saw the same thing happen about 30 years ago to a beautiful '57 Bel Air leaving the Tri-5 show at Peotone, IL. Got sideswiped and run into the median by a gawker. Tore the whole right side almost off but nobody hurt that I could see. They already had plenty of help so we just kept going.

Man, what a beautifull car! I'v never seen it in person so it must be a fairly recent build i'm guessing. What a shame.

The car is ownd by Joe and Nancy. Marco (thunderod) called me last nite to tell me the bad news, he said Nancy was pretty shaken up. Marco and I are going to start a search for parts as soon as Joe lets us know what's needed.

Hate it when shit like that happens! 99% of the time its avoidable, usually its some umpulumpa fuckin with his bluetoof or some twat putting on makeup. My buddy had a nice 32 ford and was running it around the block to warm her up and some idiot was behind him and was checking out the car and ran smoothe over the back bumper. It scares the crap out of me everytime my wife and daughter leave the house, I finally bought her a excursion with ranch hand bumpers all he way arroud, makes me feel a little better when there on the road.

  24. I know what they are going through. Many years ago a Volvo-driver went past a red light and hit my -54 Ford bad...

Saw the car at the show..it is a nice ride...

  26. Actually you borrowed it from HOTRODDON, on the HAMB, (DynoDon elsewhere) LOL

  27. Great car, relly sad to hear. Very happy they weren't hurt. So Cal has so many bad drivers, always in a hurry and generally too busy with phones, music or whatever, not paying attention to driving. The Pontiac must have been going pretty fast to make it over the islands.
