I have two axles to choose from. Number one is a dropped Model A. Number two is a stock 1932. Engine is a Cragar B in Model A frame mounted as a Model A. Don't have any fenders cause I used all my good ones. Front wishbone will be Model A with a B worked in later. Spindles, Model B, as yet unmodified. Brakes, Bendix. Spring perches, either A or B depending. Shocks, Houdaille A or B. Steering, side steer. I'm blessed with many other part choices but these are at the front of the line. Candidate one can be the dropped axle using A or B perches with possible shackles from A or V8. My reversed eye springs are 3/4" eye size, The B spindles must be modified to clear the drop. Special kingpins and hydraulic fit rings from V8 garage fit the hydraulic backing plates. No mods for the A wishbone with the 2.25" spread and ball mount adapter on the Ford V8 trans. Candidate two is the B axle. This makes likely all stock 32 from spindle to spindle, reducing the need for spindle arm mods but the A wishbone must go to 2". The shackles should go all B to the B spring perches. Which should It Be? The B stuff looks cool but is engineered for a heavier car. I usually dislike cool. The A dropped axle may be traditional and a better match. Most unmentioned part mismatches are omitted for brevity. This thread may be a useful to many that are still shopping and need focus. Good Luck: Fred A
Guess the choice of drop axle v stock has to do with ride height and or desired ride height. I would probably save the deuce axle for an A V8 but I do not build things like other people.
Probably a 1-1/2" drop with the deuce compared to maybe 3-1/2" with the dropped axle. Sounds like the later axle better suits your vehicle description; unless you are not telling us something about the rear suspension. A '33-'36 axle has the same drop and I think would look better than the '32 in your application.
Rich: the '33-'36 axle would solve the fat look of the '32. Still the task of fitting in the A wishbone would remain. Those axles are common around here, mostly offered with the false description as '32. Out here the vendors call everything '32. Just thought of another small issue. I need to measure the small difference, if any, between the spring perch bores. Back to work: Fred A
@Fred A A simple spacer will take care of the difference in wishbones. I used the cut-out piece from a hole saw to get a piece that more closely matched the wishbone. Felt it looks better than the washers some use. Should be 1/4" thick for Model A bones; the one in the picture was a little thicker for the '48 wishbone yoke. Could even weld them to the wishbone if you wanted them fancier.
