    hi,
working on my 1951 ford victoria coupe.
i'm flipping the axle and installing 4" blocks and also drop leaf spring hangers. when i removed the leaf springs, i didn't note what side went to the front. installing them i checked and sure enough there is a long side, and a short side. can anyone tell me which side goes where? when i called the supplier of the hangers, i was told to put the short side forward but putting the springs in place like that, put the blocks on a angle. putting the short side in the back puts the blocks flat which looks right. can anyone clear this up?
    thanks
P.S. i gess i'm not flipping the axle i stated that wrong. sorry

I don't have a shoebox, but usually the long side goes towards the rear. I'm sure a shoebox owner will chime in.

Flipping is moving the axle from below the springs to on top.

The OP decided he wasn’t flipping the axle. Wouldn’t a ‘51 have axle over the springs anyways?

  7. This could have been a continuation of your previous post. Short side goes to the front. Are the blocks tapered? Stock pinion angle is about 3-4 degrees and 4" blocks should be tapered to roll the pinion down slightly. Measure the thickness of the blocks and if thinner on one end it goes to the front.

4" blocks may put your U bolts below the scrub line, which makes for some interesting handling characteristics if you have a flat tire...

  9. Yes the axle is above the springs on a shoebox.
