A time when pride, quality and the American way were in every mans heart. A time when the government cared for its citizens and we cared for them. Just say'in!
Great video. I really enjoyed that. I hitched a ride on a B-17 a few years ago. What a hoot. I can honestly say it was the best $300 I ever spent. Took my camera and got some good shots. I would recommend it to anyone that is a fan of old planes.
Cool video. I was at a St Louis Cardinal ball game recently and they were honoring Stan Musial. At the end of the national anthem, they buzzed the stadium in a B-25 to honor his military service. It was awesome.
Thanx. I've been considering painting the hood / sides of my not-yet-started 50's style '29 sports coupe like the D-day invasion stripes seen on Spitfires / Mustangs / etc. - kinda like those unique hash marks seen on the fenders of some vintage sports cars. But of course these would be BIGGER and more patriotic. And / or a yellow or red grille shell? Or use a narrower version of the invasion stripes down the center of the car, or, or... Gary
Great video, but Celtic music?! I think some big band swing from the era and some radial noise would have really been the crowning touch.
Beautiful pictures. Thanks for posting. Waiting for our 1941 Air Show in Geneseo, N.Y. July 13 &14. Bring your "classic" car and get in free.
great video, hope those old war birds are aroudn for years to come. it sure does bring a different style to an airshow when one of those sail in.. always loved em as a kid
Two years ago I wet up in the B-25, Miss Barbie III, and last year I went up in the B-17, the 9-0-9. What an amazing experience! The power and the noise was incredible. To look at the workmanship and realize the USA pumped these out by the thousands in a very short time. We could never do this today because we can't make anything in America anymore. The average age of the flight crew on these planes was about 20 years old! But that was when America was America. I can't imagine the kids of today with their hats on sideways and pants around their buts doing what our fathers did!!!
Thanks for the great video, Larry. My dad was a WWII veteran had a war surplus BT13 trainer with a 450hp radial when I was a kid. I loved flying with him in the rear seat of that big old noisy, slow war horse. Nothing quite like the sound of them. He died when I was sixteen. Wished I would have paid a little more attention the few times he spoke of the war.
Hopelessly spoiled in central Florida to get to see this stuff every day. It never gets old... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMX8-gUesDI
For those in or around the SoCal area, the Chino, 2 day show is in two weeks (May 4-5). Usually a great show, flying and static. Mike
not trying to highjack----------BUT-----anyone know the story of the C47/DC3 sitting on the beach city airport--[south of canton ohio]/ grass strip airpark development? i missed my I-77N connection to US-250, took back roads/streets to re-connect......pitiful looking hulk awaiting 'attention'. [reminded me of the h.a.m.b. sitting and rusting-away thread] that was better than 2 years ago, did a google search, just now, it was still there. thanx red
There was a restaurant chain years ago that used the old birds as yard art near airports. Could that be its purpose?
If you guys are ever in the Houston area I strongly recommend you guys try & visit the Lone Star Flight museum........ Amazing planes there! Great video by the way. http://www.lsfm.org/ Cheers, SN
A couple of friends and I took a flight aboard Sentimental Journey (the beautiful B-17 in the video) in August of 2010 while it was visiting Elkhart IN., and feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity.
You and me both,,I get a little misty eyed thinking about my dad's time in B-17's and how fortunate he was to be the lone survivor of a ill fated mission. These planes are still beautiful today! HRP
On my bucket list to fly in a B-17. I was hoping to do it this year but they cancelled the air show here in K.C. thanks to the IDIOTS in washington ............Guess I will spend my money on a hooker instead
