So the Shopdawg figures I should get a build thread going here. So here is the start. Picked this up a year ago in Seattle. Probably paid too much, but WTF, you can't take it with you. Maybe with this thread I will have a chronological record to keep me motivated. Hauling it home. Just in case you are wondering, no the wing tank is gone, I only owned it for a day. Made some quick cash when I pulled into the back lot of the GG Puyallup show and some guy just had to have it. I still have a P-38 tank at home that will sit on the flat deck when I git-er-done. As she sat on the trailer, cool guy from Boise pulls up in his finished COE. Had a great time with him on the poker run. He has an awesome truck. Thanks for the ride Doug, still owe you a couple beers for putting up with me all day. Here she is, sitting in my shop. Built a dolly out of an old utility trailer axle that I picked up on KIJIJI for 50 bucks. Finished truck will be sporting the logo on the door, hence the "Lumber Wagon"****le This is the day I picked it up, sitting in a tin carport. No shopdawg, I dont have the wings on the grill. Wasn't till 6 months after I got it home and looked in the box that I had the grille in, and no wings. The dirtbag that sold me the truck would not answer calls or return emails. I ran into him this summer and asked him and he pretends he knows nothing. Some day Darrell Johnson of Edgewood WA, the Karma bus is going to mow your**** down.
Really cool, Don't you just love these old trucks. I am really getting into my build. So much fun. Seems we have a little in common. COE, 29 "A", 27 "T". !!! Mmmmmm
OH the pressure............ Al, I still don't have a CDT Thanks, C.G RMR&C, I know, I feel I have let you down Flow, I was waiting to watch your build so I knew how to "do it right"
Beavering.....hmmm, had to look that up in the Urban Dictionary. "To work diligently or to be extremely focused on the job or at a task/activity." An active extension of the term “busy as a beaver" Us Canucks would have had different thoughts on that. If your COE turns out just half as nice as your CDT and A, it will be beautiful.
Nice one Barry, Oh the different meanings too words !! ha ha I have to be honest with you. I built the Tudor "A" sedan for my son. but its still in my workshop even though he's not living here now. The CDT and the Coupe are mine. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=789981 Are you going to put the truck on a different frame?, I decided to keep mine on the original frame and use the 20" wheels etc. Just off to do some beavering.
Hey Al, I am not using the stock frame. I have a 99 Chev 1 ton dually cube van. Stripping it down and using that for my chassis. Will post more pics today.
Good to see the project . Good luck and get on with it . I am using the 59 dash now that I cut out the back of the cab and got a little room. Bought some 57 gauges at gg and going to use two out side gauge holes for ac . Blue
So, here is my chassis donor. 1999 Chev 1 ton Cube van. Motor was a 6.5 Diesel and rods were a knockin'. I figured I could pull the box off and use it as a garage for my acreage tractor that took up too much space in the garage in the winter. Also thought that I could part out the cab and recover some bucks. Did not quite come apart as easy as I thought it would. I thought is was going to be easy to separate the cab and box. Just drill out the rivets, undo the bolts and slide er back. Son of a B, the tape/glue that they use to put these things together is unbelieveable. I started using a 5 ton bottle jack to try to jack them apart. All that did was stretch the metal back on the cab. Then I hit it with a reciprocating saw and beat the hell out of my self. Then I tried an air chisel and wedged that in between cab and box. Pissed me right off, so out came Mr Plasma, and away she went. While on top of the cab, I notice flame and smoke coming out of the windows. Oh yeah, if you do this on your own, pull the headliner first.
Put the box down on a couple 6x6 timbers, lag bolted in place. Dragged it behind the garage and I have an instant garage for my tractor.
LOL Scott, I don't know if your Frankenstein tractor would have lifted the whole box. But I sure did appreciate you lifting my cab off.
You made me truly laugh out loud with the burning headliner! You've got a great way of telling a story.
Yes, Barry, do tell. Will the wheel base stay the same or be shortened? Styled flatbed? I'll bet you have a concept drawing already? Spill it!
Well Scott I have about 5 different concepts in mind. It seems to change a little everytime I see something I like. I need to get the chassis stripped bare and start mocking some stuff up. I will clean up some drawings and post them soon.
So my donor chassis is too long for my garage so had to do some modifications. Enough posting, time to get busy in the shop.
b bop look under coe in search and pull up custom dashes for trucks . Great looking 59 dash in there .
Well Blaaze, If I were a mega talented wood wacker like you, I could have come up with something more eloquent. Like Steve says, a mans gotta do, what a mans gotta do.
