Guys, I have been offered a "B&M Hydro" but think its just a stock GM hydramatic. I have attached pics. He claims it was rebuilt by B&M years ago and never used and supposedly had a B&M tag on one of the ears which is now missing(how convenient). Apparently the crate it sits on is the same it came with from B&M(not that it matters). My 2 main questions are what do I have and what is the piece on the other ******s pictured that mine wasn't cast with? Thanks, Buford
The item you are pointing out is the floorpan type dipstick. This was used in the earlier hydramatics for trucks and some automobiles such as Hudsons. The transmission ID tag on the blue transmission has the C54 prefix, which means this is from a 1954 vehicle, possibly Cadillac or Pontiac. Need to check my hydramatic manuals for the prefix codes. Doesn't look B and M to me. Easiest way of checking for hydro stick is to count how many stops there are on the manual shift lever, should be 6 stops (N Dr S Lo 1 R) The orange transmission looks like it has the hydro stick shifter.
Anouther Question, while we are at it, my reworked one has a br*** fitting on top of it, i've noticed the same thing on the orange crate too, What are these for?? Also something to remember, i read on here somewhere that the imput shaft is different for different fluid couplers, depending whether it is truck or olds
I will look into the stops on the shifter. Seller told me he bought it from national drag champ Bob Humphrey and I am still looking into him to verify who he is, so far no luck
looks like a 50's pontiac hydramatic transmission i know cause i just installed one in my boss's 52 pontiac cheiftan . yea i think thats what it is ,,you have 2 pans one on the side of the trans and one on the bottom if so its probably pontiac
I have owned B&M hydro's. Their I.D. tag is installed in place of the factory oval tag. The trans you have may have been modified but not by B&M.
