I have been running a 1955 pontiac unit behind a 390 cad since 2001. But, I never put many miles on the car. The car has been off the road for the last 5 years and I'm finally getting around to putting it back together again, and came to the realization that I have been driving it with the flat pan bellhousing. I now understand why my dipstick was always reading wrong! My question to the Hydro guru's: Is this bad? and will I cause premature oil starvation with the trans constantly titled at approx 30 degree's? or other problems? I'm on the hunt for a 1954-55 Olds or 1955-56 Pontiac slant bellhousing to remidy this situation. Should I bother? Thanks for any sage trans expert advise, -Torr
There was a slant pan bell on that auction site we all know and love just recently, like last week, but it's not there now. Is'nt there a way to look up old listings? I had a slant pan Hydro on a flat pan B and M bell for a Chevrolet. It was run that way in an old comp coupe/roadster. Butch/56sedandelivery.
Thanks butch, Good to hear someone else made the same mistake and got away with it. Anyone know if I can change out my slant oil pan and pick-up with an earlier flat oil pan & pick up assembly/filter set-up? Are they interchangable?(slant and flat pan) Does "yorgatron" still troll these waters? Anybody got a bellhousing for sale?
Olds slant pan bellhousing in question on that other site sold for .99 cents on Sep 24th. That one got by all of us.
Have these bells always been popular?, Most guys I know keep the motors and just toss the rest. It's only a stock bellhousing, and fans of these trans today are few and far between. One more try for anyone who knows the insides, can I swap pans?
