the tranny is out of a 72 olds wagon. ok, i think i have a major issue. i jacked up the car and blocked the rear end. i just hooked up the vac line to the gov on the tranny. i can feel and see it go into 2nd gear. but i can get anything for 3rd with, up and down shifting. i dont have the electric d tent wire hooked up, which shouldnt cause this, right? i have 2 wires coming off of the tranny, one is over the vavle body and the other is coming out next to the speedo cable hook up. i was thinking the wire next to the speed o would be for the reverse lights, is that correct. im at a lost for now, what should/ could/ would do? lol
One wire is for kickdown, the other is for TCS (transmission controlled spark advance) In 3rd the vacuum advance is active, non-active in other gears. Neither should prevent upshifting to 3rd. The vacuum line goes to the vacuum modulator, which does control shifting. The governor also controls shifting too. First verify that there is vacuum at the modulator and that the modulator is not leaking transmission fluid out the vacuuum port.
will do. a little history of the tranny in my hands. i know the tranny sat for years, a buddy of mine had it. first thing i did was change the fluid, filter and front and rear seals. its going in my 33 olds so it doesnt have any wires going to it yet, nor do i have the switch for the d tent yet. the fluid smelled fine when i opened it up, had a little moisture in it from setting. where do i find the numbers at? iu was thinking maybe the 3rd in the vavle body might be stuck. i could order a new modulator to try out. <!-- / message --><!-- controls -->
