hey dudes im puttin a 292 y block out of an f100 in my A tudor,i was going to put an 8" out back but i`ve just been offerd a 39 ford back end in good shape ,so the question is because i`ve never run an old back axle before will it handle the hp of the y block {not rebuilt it yet so dont know any h,p. figures ,its not goin to be monster moter anyhow}it proberbly will/i mean it will be goin downthe strip from time to time but is more for cartin the kids about in, so what do you recon "8 or 39 ford cheers keith. PS IM GOIN TO BE RUNNING THE 38 SPLIT WISH BONES ANY WAY with additional top links to match the front bones
8-inch is stronger, 39 rear is better looking. The 39 rear will hold up if you take it easy. No dumping the clutch type activities. Plenty of people have run that 39 rearend with a built up flathead, probably makes about same torque as your worn out 292.
so witch bits are the weak link with the 38 rear only ever twisted a half shaft in an 8"but found out that the socalled engineer that shortend them didnt harden them right
