Back from Maxton Mile

Here are some pictures and a couple of videos from our trip to Maxton ECTA Meet. My husband set a new record for the cl*** of Blown Fuel Lakester: 154.3 mph.

Very cool! Congrats! I was supposed to be there this year, but my quartely migration to North Carolina got shifted the the right by a week and a half. Maybe next year.

The Studebaker has a Hemi (pic to follow of it). Look closely at the 32 grill shell. Steve picked up a bird doing 186 mph and that's what is left of it!!

What do you do to celebrate a Record Run of 154.3??? Why, you get a Klondike Bar!!

Ha Ha!!! He is addicted to Diet Coke!! We had dinner with him on Thursday night at a Japanese Restaurant. He even used chopsticks!!! Took him 5 hours to eat his rice!!! LOL

Great fun, innit? My son and I took his blown ZO-6 corvette to the Texas mile earlier this spring and we went a best of 179.6 something...
I got a run in myself at 179 flat. We tried all week to break 180 [got 12 runs in] but we came up short by less than .4 of a mile per hour. Damn wind!

Thanks slepe67!!! We were going to B'ville, but the diesel prices got in the way...between our friend Steve's Motor Coach and the push truck for Steve's Roadster (which we would have used to tow the Belly Tank), it would be too expensive. So maybe next year??? We love going to Bonneville!!

I have seen the workmanship on the tank ank up close and it really well done. It will be legal by every sanctioning body rules. Nice job.

Thanks for the great pics. The lakester sounded so great going through shutdown that we commented on it each time it did so. The Studebaker is a real Maxton veteran. It ran at Maxton many years ago, before Andre purchased it. He has  resurrectedit into a really beautiful race car.

As far as ECTA's future goes from what I understand the organization will not end, but the racing will be in a different location. There are a few places that are actually looking to have us there. That in and of itself is refreshing. I am not sure when the final decision will be made, but it was emphasized that the ECTA is not a place, but a racing organization. By-the-way, it is not the military that is denying us use of the Laurinburg-Maxton Airport, but a privately owned military/security training company known as the Gryphon Group. They like to tack on the Ft. Bragg label to their existence, but as far as I know they are a private business. The Gryphon folks have leased much of the airport (and some surrounding area) for their operations and feel that the ECTA would get in the way of their operations. Personally, I just don't think the local area realizes how much money the ECTA brings to the area five times a year. Local folks have not stepped up to help so it is adios to Maxton, but not to the ECTA.

Nicely said Joe! There is nothing in the Maxton-Laurenburg area to bring in lots of money-except the ECTA Events....The hotels and restaurants in Laurenburg will feel the loss. It's too bad that they don't realize this. The ECTA is looking at an airstrip in Ohio. Keep checking their web site for updates www.ECTA-LSR.com
The Lakester will be going thru some changes for the October meet. Ron is working towards his "Go Fast" License, so the next step is 175 mph. We talked with Andre and his wife. Nice people! And we really loved the Studebaker...I drove one in the early 80's ('62 Hawk) but it didn't have a HEMI in it!!!
