I got lucky and found an old hot rod hiding in an old defunct Ford dealership in Ohio. The build started in 1955, and tinkering continued until 1962. It never got done. But the car is incredible. No rust, no dents, very decent old paint, old chopped and filled 32 grill, and all the right parts (for me anyway) . My buddy, Clay Culbertson in Rantoul, Illinois has taken the lead on breathing life back into it. The 50’s chassis work was a bit sketchy so I cheated with a Boling Brothers 4-10 frame, 57 Ford rearend, and an old chrome MorDrop axle, chrome drilled backing plates on juice brakes, and I’m still DESPERATELY SEARCHING FOR OLD CHROME SPLIT WISHBONES. The old SBC that came with it was swapped out for a 327 with an old polished X1 6x2 with Strombergs, old finned Eelco 6x2 fuel rail, original polished Eelco valve covers and oil pan, and backed by a 62 Corvette T-10 and hurst shifter. Steel wheels and new WWW’s are the rolling stock. Inside is pretty simple with an old Eelco panel and Eelco silver faced gauges, early Austin Healey bucket seats Hopefully it will be back on the road this summer. Mostly, I’m posting this to find chrome wishbones. Haha But I also hope you dig the car.
Looks like a signature east coast heavy channel - no chop, which was the trend back in the day back east.
Very neat. BUT, by the time you are finished, IT IS NOT THE SAME CAR, so it seems. Nothing wrong with that, though. Old BODY on all NEW running gear and frame. Hope to see the NEW build on the road this summer! Ben
Thanks fellas! Definitely not getting a chop! I like the east coast look and I ain’t a small fella. I’ve already practically gotta wear ballet slippers to get my feet on the pedals!
What’s confusing? Guy started building a hot rod in 1955, farted around working on it til 62 but it never got finished. Scoob found it and bought it.
Coming along great,,I like east coast style a lot;;;Some tips;;I see three things in the last frontend photo that maybe better> The front rims are a bit wrong=off set of those used ,move tire too far out side kingpins= too much scrub. The lower bottom shock mounts are set to mid axle,an should be turned so they are near wheels to work better. The front spring shackles are too low{ not at about 45*were they should be,so you'll need a front panhard bar to keep axle from moving side to side< move side to side makes death wabble/don't want that. If I see pedal set up,I mint be able to help with ideas to give you some foot room??
