I am sure you know this but it is good to point it out. Frequently when a hub is run loose a crack will start in the axle. In time this crack will migrate through the axle causing it to fail. When the axle fails the wheel/hub/axle will depart from the car. I assume you are running safety hubs or brake clips as these a a good idea anyway. Charlie Stephens
Thanks Charlie, I will have a good look at the hub/axle. it was tight when assembled, but the shim was only aluminum, (all that was available at 11pm) I didn't fully understand tapers at the time, the car would have been lucky to have traveled 80miles since I have owned it. (& It was a project long before that) I'm hoping the axle is ok & it was just a miss matched drum...
I've taken the RPU out for a rattle a couple of times recently, last weekend to the local historic race meet & this weekend just up the road to visit a couple of mates who are playing with Bangers too, it was good to go for a wander on some dirt roads, I still have much to do, the timing needs adjustment, the springs need softening & fitting shocks, some wiring work & that's before I can dial in the aesthetics, like larger rear tires (probably 6.50/18's) & a chopped screen, but much like all of us in life, we keep learning, hopefully getting better at doing life with others, so this lil Hit Rod will get better too. I have limited time & have become settled with the idea it will slowly improve, while we get to enjoy it. These were at the Historics, I didn't take many pics but these caught my eye This is a 1 of 1 Viglione Argentinan built cycle car This twin engine racer is a replica of one built in South Australia in the late 40's/50's & raced with some success
My Dad & Sister were visiting the other day, I took them both for a rattle around the block, my little girl raced out for a ride too, "the noisier the better she says"
I'll admit I'm slightly jealous. My son and I bought an A chassis that I fully intended on putting a roadster pickup body on. However, fate intervened, and I got a job at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI where there is a 29 A roadster pickup in the fleet. I learned, I'm a bit on the 'large' side to fit into that body style. Well, really, almost all body styles, but that one particularly. I am subscribing to follow along vicariously so I can see someone enjoy what I can't. v/r, jason
Man on man! I love this thing..you guys sure know how to have fun down there.. I wish I could find a bunch of guys into early stuff I could learn so much.! I'll keep watching.
Thanks guys, the main aim for this lil hot rod is maximum fun, minimal cost & for minimal stress. Something to be shared with as many people as possible
We've had a fair bit going on, young family, house extension broken cars, while the lil pickup has been neglected, it hasn't been forgotten, Just a quick pic of its new high heels. I'll squirt the front wheels to match the back in good time. Thanks for the interest.
What are those angled tubes above the blower in the yellow car? What make is the sports car or is it a one-off?
The body of this was originally a LHD & Chassis RHD, some could say it's confused, I say it's been redeemed, given a new life
Thanks @jet996 they are 7.00/18, they are a big tyre, the front's are a 4.50/4.75-17 on a skinny English Y model rim. A 5.00 or 5.50/17 might balance it out a bit better? Will see how it goes
Glenn, how do you find the 700-18’s on 32 rims? I’m thinking of running them on my coupe, with 3.7 rear gears
