I remember trying to buy the 51 when there was a guy living there but he wouldn't sell anything. It was in decent shape then (about 40 yrs ago). It was a ragtop with a hardtop roof put on it at the time, if I remember correctly.

Gonna fix it up someday I guess! LoL

She had a different front bumper added and some kind of wrap around rear bumper with a continental kit.
Bet it was a cool car originally.

In the 50s and 60s, the American servicemen from the base at Argentia had to travel that road to get to St. John's for the weekend and a lot of cars were left on the road or pushed into the woods or given to locals and this was one of them. Btw, route 90 was built by the Americans in the 40s as a connection to St. John's. Some of us still refer to it as the military road.

We think thats exactly what it is Roger!
No doubt YOU can spot a 57 part! LoL

I'm starting on the quarters tonight. Still a fair bit of the bodywork to do but the big issue is that none of the mechanical work has been done as the guy has only dropped over ONCE in 9 weeks.
Huge help:rolleyes::mad:...and he was gonna do everything i needed done.

Better if he had of told me to get stuffed when I asked him to do it and then I would have hired someone else or did it myself on and off!
I'm in a bit of a bind but I think I can get thru it.
I have a bit of a plan in the works.

In the mean time he says he's gonna show up on Sunday...but I'm not holding my breath.

Hmmm...wonder what can be found along the "military Rd"....:D

too busy after work... but saturday i might be a bit busy and might be able to squeeze you in some where if not saturday. Call me and let me know what works best for you. You can park next to it. I got to grab a chevelle hood and maybe 2 bumpers. I can pretty much park next to it and touch the ol girl.

    That worries me.
Not in a new subdivision area and likely to disappear at any moment is it?
Notice the remains of any fenders nearby?

    Thanks Steve!

I figure I'm WAY overdue on an update to this thread but unfortunately its obvious the car won't be out for this summer.
Now that "summer?" is here I have to do work around the house and try to guide fitzee in the general direction of Moncton...(Go west young man!) Hahaha

Still...I'm not unhappy with what was accomplished AND when we get back fitz and I have an agreement where he's gonna help me out to get the exterior body tinned out and solid so I can do the filler work over the winter.
He's getting my Blazer to use as a snowplow in return!

I'm about 90% sure I'm gonna do a 2 dr conversion and even some customization as well over the winter.
The slant 6 has a worried look as well...;)

Ok....Petes Rocker Reshaping Inc put me back on track and they fit nice...once I got them in place.
WORST car I ever put rockers on!
I should have gone with thicker metal as the shallow roll of the rocker made it difficult to keep them alligned but with a few extra bangs of my head it finally worked out.

I dug into the right cowl as that was in terrible condition and I wanted some strength back in that area ASAP.
I changed the shape a bit and added an access port to allow for cleanouts and sealing/rust protection. That will get a cover before the fender goes on.
The inner fender apron was trashed but I have a good one from the donor front so thats out and the donor is waiting to go for shot blasting as are the spindles and some other stuff.
Left apron is easily repaired so it isn't getting replaced.
Left cowl area is rough but solid. Still gonna end up needing a good bit of work.

The left rear wheel arch was made from bits and pieces of a 67 Belvedere front wheel arch. The inner well was repaired in pieces and fully welded. The picture shows it just tacked and undollied to proper shape. Everything is ground and coated with zinc rich primer and will eventually be painted inside and rust protected.

Thats about where it lies now but I have been buying additional parts to make it all go faster once the re***embly starts.

Darn car was a lot rougher than I first thought, but I've taken a different approach to this project and it seems to work well for me.

Basicly...I'm BUYING some stuff instead of trying to build/adapt everything AND I'm (with effort...) accepting some help instead of being the one man army I've always attempted to be before.

Waddayaknow...the changes are helping this build keep the fun factor despite the unexpected roadblocks!

I had a feeling the car wouldn't make it this summer, especially after the work you've put in it...if your time was money, you could've bought a really nice rust-free Dodge/Plymouth here in the US (southwest of course), had it shipped to St. John's and still had money left over to buy fuel for the summer...

I don't know how you guys up there do it...guess it keeps you busy during the winter, eh...???

    You nailed it Roger.
Good advice for anyone reading this!!!!
Would have been money in the bank to just go buy something better...especially something odd ball like this Dodge!!!
My own fault...i just didn't look hard enough at it and didn't see the extent of coverups that it had. Who knows...maybe I'll see something that spins my crank in Moncton and drive back with it.
    Not ruling that out!

I think it could have been out if my help at actually appeared to do the mechanical work as promised.
With that extra work piled on me it was just physically impossible.

    Long overdue update....
Got the rust on the front sections all cleaned up...replaced the right front fender apron to get clear of the rust holes there. The drivers side was good with only one small issue.

Fixed the lower rad crossmember and then pulled the top off the cowl area to see how bad that was.
Much better than i thought so I put three new pieces of metal in there and now I'm ready to start reattaching the cowl top...once thats been repaired!
All the front is now in epoxy primer and all the suspension parts are blasted and painted, ready to go back in.
Picked up a 400 4bbl and torqueflite from a 78 Chrysler (Freebie...thanks Chris, Paul and Fitz!) S****ped it down at fitzees shop...got some additional bits from it as well.
Goodbye push ****on unfortunately...but the extra highway oats will be welcome.

Gotta get the cowl finished off as she's due for a tow to fitzees "Island Rod and Kustom" shop so we can quickly get the fenders and quarters into shape.
