Oh come on guys....EVERYBODY has a 32 Ford! I wanted something unusual (LOL)...but I REALLY DID think I'd be driving it by now! Sigh.... So much for plans. We got some stuff done tonight but nothing that really photographs well...so we didn't take pics! I know one thing...too many coffees. I'm wired!!! I feel like going back at the car!!!!
No pics...just words. Forgot the camera a couple of times at fitzees and due to a big snow storm this weekend we didn't get to the shop at all to actually work on the body. Guess we'll be at it tomorrow nite though. I took the time to finally get at the 400 engine in my shop and made a depressing discovery. NOTE: I had to leave it outside due to the positioning of the car itself inside the garage preventing it from p***ing thru. Well...I don't think its fit to use now! I stored it outside on my open trailer...covered the carb and any other openings to prevent rain water from entering and before the snow hit, I covered it with a tarp as well. What I didn't know...was Mother MOPAR uses a cheap *** tin foil valley cover thats known to rust out very easily, which mine had done, and of course the engine crankcase filled up with about 2 or more gallons of water and it remained inside the engine right thru the winter. Frozen most times no doubt! Man was I pissed to find that...and even more pissed to find the reason! Had I known I would have sealed the engine in plastic right from the start. What I had done would have been fine without that swiss cheese valley cover... The only saving grace would be I also have the 318 Poly that came with the Modified project I recently bought. It actually belongs with the V8 crossmember I have installed in the Dodge! I have everything needed to install it as well...so its a no brainer to use this and let the 400 go away for s****. Sad though. With both side by side its easy to see the 4 bbl 400 would have much more power available. Wonder how much "seat of the pants" power I'll be giving up? Is the 2 bbl 318 Poly up to the task of acceptable highway cruising power??? I also stripped the engine hood and started to repair some trim holes and a bit of rust out along the front edge...but then discovered that my welding mask is at fitzees! Foiled again.... Such is life.
Yes took two days off from the old girl..well I did..Bill plugged away on parts at home.. We were back at it tonight.getting close to finshing up p***age side!! but I had to post this picture of the repairs to the right rear quarter I found a few nights ago. I had to strip the quarter of anything I didnt need and to find good metal!!well in stripping the corner I came across rivites!! grinded the heads off!! folded the tin back only to find another peice of tin and rivits!! grinded off the rivites and folded back that peice of tin only to find the stock quarter with a smaller peice of tin rivited in!! man the poor car has been around the block a few times!!
wow.. imagine how light that car will be after all those extra patches are removed! Too bad about the 400. But a 318 poly should haul that car around decently, I would think. And full-dressed it should be well over 150 lbs lighter than the 400. You guys dig out from the snow yet?
there could be more progress if bill wasnt hanging out at walmart sunday night with my inlaw's buying dinky's
hey bill how did your s10 f1 frame swap go after??? your the only one i know who turned a 48 ford p/u into a s10
What a bunch! Hahaha Jason, your inlaw is there EVERY night hoping for the latest Hot Wheel collectible! I was there to get a couple of magazines... The F1 front frame pieces actually fit close enough that I can even use the original F1 shackle mounts to mount modified S 10 shackles. It's working out great and my rusty framed S10 winter bomb NEVER had it so good frame wise. Imagine...had to use 60 odd year old Ford stuff (left over from a clip job to "Rustydebris" truck. Thank you very much!) to fix a 12 year old Blazer. Make you rethink doing an S10 swap to an old Ford I tell ya! Once the Blazer is out of the garage the 63 Dodge is going in so stay tuned for updates soon!
