Wow, you guys are really into these "rules" These are just common sense things that a guy should know on his own. But who cares anyway, do whatever the hell you want with your windows, its your car. Shouldn't matter where your girlfriend sits as long as you can reach the shifter.

funny you say that. when i first got the space herpie the shifter was flipped to the right side of the wheel. i guess back in the day it was done for two reasons. 1. so you can get a little closer with your girl.
    2. so second gear was down and not up for faster shifting.

all i know is it was way nicer on the right and im doing that to my plymouth.

That might have worked in California but in the midwest in the 60s the girl NEVER drove, I don't care whose car it was. It was ALWAYS 2 guys in front 2 girls in back irregardless of whose car it was or any relationships involved (until you got to the drive -in of course :) ) Yeah, we were sexist pigs.

Like 'DIRTYT' said, you could 'flip' the shifter (real easy to do on a '50 Chevy), but it was awkward because your arm was too close to the door; we used to do it just to be different.

A true test of skill was to have your right arm around the girl sitting in the middle of the seat and shift (and steer) with the left. If you were really good you could accomplish all of this while also sipping on a can of beer..............(yeah, we did that too)

If you need rules to be cool you're not cool.

i think redlines got it nailed!

  10. With your right hand around the girl, it wasn't too hard to shift left-handed.
Or . . . you could let the girl shift.

Not necessarily about bein' cool . . . just the way it seemed to work out most times.
Having a beautiful young woman in the car with you was cool in itself.

If the young lady in question falls onto the floor when climbing over the front seat back enroute to the back seat it's impolite - not to mention stupid - to laugh.

You're on your own about offering to help her off the floor.
She's gonna be embarassed and mad at herself.
Probably best to keep your mouth shut, climb over the seat when she's squared away and rub it where it hurts....;)

  11. Well, didnt know there were rules. Though they seem to be universal and ring true here as well. Guess I grew up with it and never thought about it.
I hate the rear windows up on a 'vert! a pet hate of mine.

I like skirts lowered, arr, raised, oh never mind.

My daughter ask, why I have never ridden with her. I just said, guys don't ride with girls. She says that's stupid, I say that is just the rules, I'm just old.

So many guys leave their back windows up on a hardtop while parked at a car show!!! What's up with that?
I don't want no hairy legged guy sitting next to me if there is chick in the car that will sit next to me, well maybe now that I'm 62 my wife would rather sit in the back with her sister!! But you know what I mean HAHA!

Here is my shorter (yet still very applicable) list.

    Rule 1: Don't be a douchebag.

    That is all.

Thats the way it was. On my way down the interstate to a car show this spring I overtook a 56 Chevy just tooling along. The driver was in the correct position with the arm around the girl seated in the middle next to him. The weeds were even rolled in the left t-shirt sleeve! Christ, it took me back to "the day". Made my day!
