I'm going to run side pipes on my olds and I dont belive in putting non functioning pipes on cars. Is back pressure that important on the engine. Do I need to run some kind of muffler. What did any of you use if any and I like it loud. My car has to make a trip straight to the muffler shop when its road worthy(Two broken header bolts) so I might as well do it now.

My friend and I both run/ran open side pipes. I've had mine on for about 8 months. He ran his for around a year and a half if I remember right. He just took his off with plans on changing to bellflowers.

No problems on either with back pressure. Also plenty loud. He runs a Y-block, me a flathead 6. Go for it.

I welded in some motorcycle baffles inside the pipes right after the header collectors. It leaves them loud but cuts it just enough so that you can actually hear yourself think while you drive.
