Well, After having to be good boys and earn some living for awhile we got some more time to work on our car. So we've been burning the late oils again for the last week and again this week thus far. The Barn Job's looking alot more like an actual car now and will be ready for a sashay down the strip this time (I'll have some new pictures on the build thread later in the week). Unfortunately we don't have anyplace flat or remote enough to do any testing around here so if we get to make a p*** it'll be her maiden trip. Hopefully we'll tech OK and won't embar*** ourselves too badly. See ya up there ............
Do they still have the same rules as Hamb? If so how many are going to show up at Bakersfield? This is the same day as the Hamb Nationals at MO-KAN in Ashbury. I have always wanted to come back to Cal. for another March meet. I'm sure that they don't want us running our cars at that though. Roy
The ANRA Meet this Saturday will be a night race. Open the gates at 2.00pm and run till itsl over..**** if you would like to make a p*** let me know and I'll let Butch know.. I don't think there is any other HAMB cars ready to run yet (including mine) we can let you make an exibition run if you would like. Let me know..The CHRR is in 6 weeks (second weekend in Oct.) Im getting my altered ready to go to that one so had to put the HAMBster on hold..Some one said that they would like to come to Cal for the March Meet. If you want to see a real "HOT ROD FEST" come to the CHRR at Bakersfield. Its the woodstock of drag racing..
OH YEA,,,, Don't forget the ANRA Finals in November. It will be a 2 day event. Butch has already said, If the HAMBsters show up, We will make a cl*** for them..So Maybe, Just maybe, Some will go for it..
Howdy ****, Yeah, we were looking forward to the possibility of turning the tires a bit. We were unaware it's to be an evening meet, very glad you mentioned that. It hadn't even occured to me to check, and we'd have felt really stupid sitting at the gate for half a day (not to mention how unhappy Russ would've been with me). Would there be any possibility of getting in a little T&T before they open officially? As I mentioned, we haven't had time to do any yet and if we're going to be the only runner it'd be nice to get it right. Also, are you going to bring along any of the HAMBster projects you're involved with to show again? OK, shameless hype time ............. Are any of you other gentlemen with projects going to bring'em as well? Even a line-up of frames'll show how the cl***'s growing and you could toss that in the pick-up or atop the car on a blanket, no trailer needed. We have half a dozen cars in the works locally but nobody'll know 'til we bring'em & show'em. For those without a frame yet how 'bout a sketch of your plans (with a description of your goals?) and a photo of your parts pile to hang up. We're bringing a sun shade (pasty white boys need these) we can hang'em up on. There're a lot of interested folks who'll be alot more interested if they see the growth first hand. Plus, we really do need some more of the Bug stylers there so folks don't get the idea it's all about some sort of retro middies. You know, show'em the Barn Job's the exception, not the rule. That's it, hype over (for now ). Be cool, and see ya there. And you guys making Mokan, have fun. That's an order.
What we need to do is give you California guys some orders to come to Mokan, with the HA/GRs. Really looking for some of you to make next years drags.
Mokan's decidedly on our plan sheet for '08. It's really annoying we weren't able to make time for it this year, too much thrashing needed done for the local shows. You know, it's truly amazing just how many of the odds & ends we put off to get'er noisy for the June meet. We had no grease or cotter pins in the spindles nor oil in the drivetrain, the carbs were literally glued together for the day, the fuel line was too much rubber, the steering wasn't adjusted, there were just two wires and two switches (on/off & start), no windscreen, and we'd brought no clothing or buckets. Even if one of the techs'd been stewed to the gills and p***ed us by mistake we wouldn't have actually rolled'er out on the strip in that shape. At least we have'er properly together now for Saturdays meet, even lettered (but no nose art as yet). Ain't nothing going to be laying on the strip where we ran if we can help it. Hell, we could possibly even get some of the casting sprues on the tires worn down a bit by next years Mokan.
****,, I would love to but, I have to leave early that night so I can get back. I have to go somewhere on sunday morn. So I will just come up then leave about 10pm Sorry.. Why don't you call Butch?? (661) 667-0030 Then he can set it up for you.. See ya at the Patch..
Thanks for the number, ****. I'll do just that. How're mosquitoes up there this time of year? "What we need to do is give you California guys some orders to come to Mokan, with the HA/GRs. " We'll get there one of these days. Hell, I can't follow orders any better'n I can follow directions. I kin giv'em reel gud tho.
You won't be bothered by any pesky critters this time of year.. Besides they will all be asleep. Its a night race remember. he he he.....
The last meet at Bakersfield I was at was March of 1964. I would like to get my HAMB dragster built and come out to run down Bakersfield strip one time just to say I did. It is surely improved somewhat since I was there. I love front engine dragsters that use real auto engines. Is the event in Nov. a real race or do they just fire them up and let them idle and blip the throttle? In 1959 in the middle of the night there were cars racing across the pit area at well over 100mph. With 300 acres of asphalt it is limitless but people were stupid. I had my car on the spectators side and was glad of it. They parked some beer trucks on the spectators side and not a can was left by sun up. !959 was wild and crazy. Roy
Roy: The Nov. Race for the ANRA is a full 2 day event. The owner of the ***oc. is a good friend of mine, And welcomes the HAMBster cars to any of their events. In fact, I think he would like to have one of his own.. Maybe next year we could set up an East-West shoot out or something. Alot of us guys would like to run back there with you guys. The Calif Hamb deal is just now starting to get a good following. But if things keep going we should have some nice cars ready real soon..**** (Old 6)has his car just about completed. And a few more on the frame jig. So maybe next year we could get this thing going and have a full 16 car field.. Bakersfield is still like it was back in the 60s. Well kinda. But NO racing in the pits. I too have been going there for many years and remember some of the shinanigans that went on there. But no more.....
I don't believe there'll be any HA/GRs running at the CHRR meet this weekend. Our guys are going but the car isn't. We'll be at the November ANRA meet to show & tell again as promised, but at this juncture we aren't cleared to run yet.
